Daily Debate: Are the Joy-Con Motion Controls in Skyward Sword HD Better, Worse, or Equivalent to the Wii Motion Plus Controls?
Posted on July 17 2021 by Sean Gadus
Motion controls are a crucial part of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword gameplay. In my own experience with the original game, the Wii’s motion controls worked extremely well for me and I enjoyed them a great deal. When I started writing for Zelda Dungeon, I discovered that these controls had not necessarily worked as well for some of my colleagues, and some writers even cited the motion controls as a major barrier to completing the game.
With the release of Skyward Sword HD, Nintendo is tweaking the motion controls to work with their Joy-Cons, though they are adding ways to play the game without motion controls. With that in mind, do you think the motion controls for Skyward Sword HD are better, worse, or the equivalent to the motion controls seen in the original?
This is an important sticking point for the rerelease as I expect that most players will try to utilize the motions controls at some point in their experience. New players will have their first experience with Skyward Sword, and the controls could help shape how they view the game. Meanwhile, returning players will be checking the new experience against the experience they had with the original.
What do you think of the Joy-Con controls in Skyward Sword HD? Are they better, worse, or equivalent to the Wii Motion Plus controls? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
