After several weeks of very little news in regards to Spirit Tracks, we finally have gotten at least something that we can drool over as we all wait impatiently. In an interview with Xplay, it has been confirmed that Link will be able to customize his train, and later in the game, be able to lay down his own tracks to explore the overworld. The video below has a few tidbits about New Super Mario Bros for the Wii and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the customization of Linebeck’s Steam Boat in Phantom Hourglass, as I felt it was a missed opportunity. I voiced my opinion over at our Zelda Forums in a thread entitled, Ship Parts. My hope is that for Spirit Tracks, the various customized parts do a bit more than just increasing the health of the train. If each set would allow for a unique ability such as, a faster train, more health, higher firing power, longer range with the canon, etc… If each part had its own unique ability, then I think the customizing would be a lot more fun. However, I’m thinking the game will follow suite and be similar to the customization that we saw in Phantom Hourglass. Only time will tell as Spirit Tracks is set to release on December 7th, 2009 here in the US, less than 6 weeks from today.
