With fewer conventions to attend this year, it can be difficult for artists and cosplayers to stay motivated. Let’s be honest, the rush of stress that comes with a convention mere hours away is a lifestyle. At least, that’s my experience as a convention artist myself. So, with no conventions on the schedule, how are cosplayers keeping motivated?

With online challenges! Earlier this month, YouTuber Alana Owlet and Kirilee Cosplay issued the 2020 Scrap Epic Challenge. Until the end of May, cosplayers everywhere have been challenged to create using only the supplies in their home. If absolutely necessary, creators may spend a maximum of $20 to order supplies online. There are some prizes on the line, for that extra dash of motivation.

Cosplayer Annie Chie rose to the challenge, crafting a wonderful Anju cosplay. In her video, she shows step-by-step how she went about creating Anju’s iconic dress and styling the wig. She completed it entirely using tools and supplies on hand, which is even more impressive. Even her mother’s chickens approved of her cosplay!

I am not a cosplayer myself, so watching such artists create is always magical to me. The problem solving and skill Annie Chie demonstrates in her video is phenomenal!

So, how are you staying motivated in this convention-free world? Have you made anything you’d like to share, or do you plan on taking on the Scrap Epic Challenge? Share with us in the comments below!
