ZeldaClockL Collections big and small are flowing in to be the next spotlight on the website. This week’s Collection Spotlight features Derek and his show and tell. Derek, like all of us, confessed his addiction to the Legend of Zelda. One outlet for his addiction led him to create a handy device inspired by an item that is so common throughout the series, the treasure chest.

Hi, my name is Derek and I am addicted to The Legend of Zelda! I am 39 years old and I am from Shelby, Alabama. My first experience with Zelda was probably about 15 years ago when I played A Link to the Past on the Super Nintendo, but that wasn’t when my addiction began. I don’t think I ever even finished that game at the time. It wasn’t until I got a Wii a few years ago that I refound Link and Zelda with Twilight Princess. Ever since, I have been hooked!

My collection is mostly centered around the games themselves and the books that go with them. However, that isn’t to say that I am not into all things Zelda. My current collection consists of a couple of figures, a key-chain and the following games and books.
Games:

  • The Legend of Zelda
  • The Legend of Zelda (Game Boy Advance)
  • The Adventure of Link

Future Additions:
I plan on obtaining all of the games.
I would like a real sword and shield based on either Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword.

Favorite Item:
My most valued piece of memorabilia is not something that I have bought. However, it is something that I have designed and built myself. I have wanted to build a clock with analog meter movements for about five years now, but I never could think of a fitting case for it. Finally, it hit me – the Legend of Zelda! Since I love the series I built a treasure chest and designed the meter panels with the Triforce symbol. It is still a work in progress. I am going to put a small tray on the inside with LED lights and a sound module so that when you open the chest the “rupees” glow and the “you opened a chest” sound is played.

Weekly Collection Selection:
This week’s Collection Selection is inspired by Derek’s desire to own a Hylian shield. Here is a life size Hylian Shield. I received a shield of this type for Christmas a couple years back, and I wore it around my house for weeks.

This is just one of many available, but I just included this to act as a jumping off point for further searching. Some may like the traditional blue, while others want a Dark Link shield. There is also the miniature sword and shield which comes with the Twilight Princess soundtrack as well as the sword and shield pendant set. Happy Hunting.

This Hylian shield is a large, adult-sized shield and bearing the crest of the Hylian Royal Family and the Triforce. This is a replica based off of the shields in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. Two great features about this shield include a mounting chain for wall display and arm bands with a handle for carrying.

In closing I ask, would you like to see your collection spotlighted on the website? Do you want to share how you got into Zelda and show off the items you are proud of owning?

Send me an email at tyler@zeldadungeon.net. Include some pictures, a little background of who you are, how you got into Zelda, your first Zelda game, a listing of the items you have now, what you hope to own in the future, and your favorite item.

Please do not be frightened or discouraged when you see these showcases. I’m receiving emails from collectors who are hesitant to have their collections featured even though they are quite good.

Also feel free to comment on whatever you like. A personal favorite of mine was the custom clock chest, how about you? What type of items would you like to see in the Collection Selection? List it below and I will attempt to find it for sale!
