Classical music has been, for many years of my life, one of my favorite styles of music. When approached properly, the genre has the potential to evoke deeper emotions than many other kinds of music, painting musical pictures of nostalgic memories, epic scenes, dramatic events, and victorious moments. One group that has repeatedly succeeded to effectively create this type of music is The Triforce Quartet, and they are releasing their third album in just a few days.

For those of you who are not familiar with this group, here is the official present release from the band themselves:

“A little bit about us: Triforce Quartet is a classically-trained string quartet that arranges and performs video game music! We have performed both in the US and abroad for audiences large and small from PAX to MAGfest, iDig to DragonCon. We’ve worked with a number of leaders in the video game music community from Saori Kobayashi to Christopher Tin and Eimear Noone, as well as Tommy Tallarico and Video Games Live. We’ve collaborated with other VGM bands and arrangers such as Cheap Dinosaurs and members of Bit Brigade, the Returners, Super Soul Bros, and Materia Collective. Triforce Quartet is comprised of Matthew Evans and Jacob Roege, violins, Stanley Beckwith, viola, and Chad Schwartz, cellist and arranger.

We released our first album The Legend Of in 2014, our second album Ultima Phantasia in 2016, and now finally our third album Minuet of Time will be available October 24 2019 on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, and more! We decided on the name Minuet in Time because a minuet is a classical dance counted in 3/4 time; a nod to it being our third album, and our Legend of Zelda roots.”

Now, I’d like to give special thanks to Chad Schwartz and the Triforce Quartet group as a whole for sending us a review copy of the entire album to listen to early! I’ve enjoyed your music in the past, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to each and every piece on this new album as well. A few pieces, however, stood out to me in particular.

#2 – Hollow Knight Medley – Although I haven’t had the opportunity to play this game yet, this musical composition made me even more interested to try it.

#3 – The Legend of Zelda. Ocarina of Time – Title Theme – The Triforce Quartet did a fantastic job of covering this classic theme that is widely known and loved by many Zelda fans. Their remastering of it could even be considered to be better than the original.

#7 – Portal – Still Alive – I definitely have some bias here, being a Portal fan. Even so, lyrics were not necessary for this group to make a highly enjoyable cover of an already fun song.

#8 – Undertale Boss Medley – Once Upon a Time, Bonetrousle, Spear of Justice, Megalovania, ASGORE (From Undertale) – Just as with the previous track, as a fan of Undertale and its soundtrack, I’m biased towards this piece. Though I’ve heard poor attempts at boss medleys before, this is without a doubt a very-well-executed version of that idea. The stringed instruments that The Triforce Quartet are so skilled with give each part of the piece a little extra flair. While I would have been glad to hear a few other boss themes included in this piece, each one that they featured was given their full effort and was fantastic!

#10 – Skies of Arcadia – Main Theme – Although I am unfamiliar with this particular game, I especially enjoyed this short but beautiful piece of music.

So, on October 24, keep an eye out on their official Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play pages, as well as their website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! Please give them your support and enjoy their new album, Minuet of Time!
