I’ve found that there’s generally an overlap between fans of Zelda and fans of the works of Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli. Fantastical themes are present in both, and it’s not hard to imagine any of animator and director Hayao Miyazaki’s worlds translating into a brand new Zelda adventure given a few tweaks. Our own Michaela El-Ters shares this sentiment, as she’s discussed at length how my personal favorite Ghibli film, Princess Mononoke, reminds her of our favorite Hyrulean franchise.

Artist and sculptor Valerie Wai seems to agree as well, and has decided to give physicality to the connection these worlds share. Here, Valerie has created a phone grip holder from polymer clay depicting several characters from both Zelda and Studio Ghibli’s works, and to say that it’s amazing is an understatement. Link and Makar from The Wind Waker, alongside Navi the fairy, join the likes of Jiji the cat from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro, and a Kodama from Princess Mononoke to make this phone holder something truly special. Valerie walks us through the process she undertook, making the craftsmanship of the piece all the more stunning. I’ve personally never considered a phone grip up to this point, but were this made widely available I’d absolutely change my tune.
