Going out to listen or dance to big-band style jazz is a generally underappreciated pleasure. I certainly wish I did it more often, and over the years there have been more and more swing-worthy renditions of classic video game favorites to really make nerdy jazz lovers’ hearts sing. The 8-Bit Big Band’s rendition of “Song of Storms” from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is no exception!

The 8-Bit Big Band is a Grammy Award-winning full-sized Jazz/pops orchestra bringing some of the best hits in video game history to jazzy life. For any given piece, the orchestra’s size ranges from 25 to 65 playing members. Guest-starring in the orchestra’s rendition of “Song of Storms” is alto saxophone soloist Patrick Bartley, who is also the leader of the J-Music Ensemble. The 8-Bit Big Band has released full albums of video game music covers as well as individual covers from series like Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, and Final Fantasy, along with lots of Mario and Zelda content.

The band’s arrangement of “Song of Storms” feels grand and sweeping, including expert performances on the trumpet, trombone, bass, piano, drums, violin, and even the harp! Whether you’re a jazz enthusiast, a musician, or simply an everyday Zelda fan looking for something new to add to your music playlist, there’s something for you in this cover.
