The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been delayed so many times that I’m sure a lot of even the most hardcore Zelda fans doubted it would ever release. Lo and behold, however, as last week we finally got a release date for the upcoming newest release into our beloved series. Although, it’s been pushed back so many times that it’s now releasing on the Wii U and Switch at launch.

In a recent interview with IGN, Eiji Aonuma revealed that he wasn’t able to completely utilise all of the features for the Switch, and so there’s a good chance that we’ll be getting a second Zelda game during the Switch’s lifetime. Here’s what he had to say:

“I haven’t been able to fully use all of the new features of the system,” Aonuma told IGN. “There could be the possibility of another Zelda on Nintendo Switch.”

Aonuma was further asked where Zelda could go next given Breath of the Wild’s large scale and scope. He joked by saying “It’s always easy to top the best,” and then said:

“I think the core element of Zelda gameplay kind of stays the same. There’s the main character development as well as characters you meet along the way, and then you learn new things as the character develops. With that said I think we could keep all that, and then I do wonder how we can expand from here with that in mind.”

Shigeru Miyamoto also chimed in, and joked:

“Mr. Aonuma is the producer for Zelda. If we don’t create another one, he’s going to be out of a job, that should be his motivation for another one. As a company, Nintendo releases a main series in our key franchises for every new hardware that we’ve put out. If we release another hardware, that’ll be another new Zelda.”

What are your thoughts? Are you happy that there could be a second Zelda game on Switch that could top Breath of the Wild? Let us know in the comments below!
