Adventure Time 3DS Game Inspired by Zelda II

That’s right folks, the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time created by Pendleton Ward is releasing a video game titled Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage? for the Nintendo 3DS console and we have the newest updates! One thing no one could have ever expected is that it pays homage to The Adventure of Link. This enchanting 2D side-scroller uses a very similar menu format and health system to that of Zelda.
If you’re a massive fan of the show as I am, the title will probably make sense to you. The Ice King, the lame antagonist of the series and self-proclaimed best friend of Finn and Jake probably stole their junk from the tree fort. This whacky, offbeat show’s transition to the gaming world is much anticipated by people of all ages, and I’m sure that it will be a wild success. It even drops nostalgia bombs in the form of the line “Hey man! It’s dangerous to go alone!”. Yes, that quote is in the game. Best of all, it’s only priced at $29.99 on its own. Light RPG elements, the famous Zelda chime that accompanies opening a Treasure Chest and gameplay all mirror that of The Adventure of Link intentionally. The new game takes place in four major areas of Ooo: the Candy Kingdom, Ice Kingdom (home of the Ice King), Grasslands and Red Rock Pass. Taking a page from The Adventure of Link‘s book, Hey Ice King! borrows both the top-down view and the side-scrolling from Zelda. Large overworld areas will be presented in top-down and smaller areas in side-scrolling.
Below is the official teaser trailer for the new Adventure Time game. It features the lackeys of King Worm, Tree Trunks and more. If you look closely to the box art, you can make out that Ice King is actually using his penguin Gunter as a decoy princess. Too bad they didn’t show Jake’s pretty face on the box art. However, plenty of other characters get some screen time, among them Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire.
The best part is that it’s arriving on November 13, 2012! Developed by WayForward, the zany humor of Finn, Jake and the rest of the crew will be brought into gaming. Hey Ice King! sprinkles references to the show and to Zelda all over the place. Pendleton Ward had this to say about the game:
There’s a lot of Zelda in it. We talked a lot about Zelda II elements, where Finn is walking around in top world mode and you run into the black, shadowy creatures, which randomly pop up. I think it’s fun to reference old games – a little nostalgia factor.
Fans of Adventure Time will recognize this big green meanie as Donny the Jerk. Happy to see him again?
Adventure Time fans have a lot to look forward to with the Collector’s Edition. Priced at $39.99, it is a mere ten dollars more expensive than the original game. That’s quite a bargain if you ask me! It features the following:

- Poster map of the Land of Ooo
