It is not at all common for Zelda to feature multiplayer, in fact, only Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, The Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks involve anything even close to multiplayer. Could, and should, multiplayer be worked into the next Zelda game, and if so, how so? Join in the discussion after the jump!

It is still entirely unclear what will be done with Zelda Wii U. We know that the “conventions of Zelda” will be moved away from, but can we not assume that singleplayer gameplay is one of Zelda’s conventions? Could multiplayer be involved for a change? It is not like there are no ways to include it.

downloadFour Swords, as well as Four Swords Adventures, uses the method of travelling around together, moving through the adventure and solving puzzles in ways that require the amount of players that are currently playing. This could work just fine is a split-screen fashion, and even online. Perhaps if the game’s adventure is made up of missions, players could join up online to go through them together. Even something small, like the tingle tuner from The Wind Waker, could be done. The Wii U gamepad could be utilized locally in that sense.

At the very least, minigames could be used, like in Phantom Hourglass‘ and Spirit Tracks‘ battle mode and Force Gem game, respectively. Again, online functionality could make these really fun, but as per usual, people would need to put a lot of faith in Nintendo to use online modes well, and that can be quite the gamble.

What do you guys think? Is there a chance that Zelda Wii U will involve multiplayer modes? If so, what do you think should be done with it? Leave your thoughts below!
