You’d think that my recent Breath of the Wild playthrough — not to mention all the information gleaned from the trailers — would’ve prepared me for Tears of the Kingdom. And for as big as the Great Sky Island tutorial was, it wasn’t until an hour or so into my return to the surface that I realized just how ambitious this game was.

Many open-world titles pride themselves on the sheer size of their world map. Oftentimes, however, much of that space is filled with a whole lot of nothing. Even Breath of the Wild — despite being among the best in its class — was occasionally a little too barren for my tastes. Conversely, Tears of the Kingdom is not only several magnitudes larger than its predecessor thanks to both the Sky Islands and the Depths, but is also more densely packed.

There’s so much to do, in fact, that my first few days with the game were kind of overwhelming. My attention was constantly being pulled from one activity to the next, which can be intimidating for someone who generally prefers to tackle tasks in a set, organized manner. It wasn’t until yesterday that I began to embrace the chaos. After all, what’s the rush? Given how long we’ve all waited for this game, I find I’m most at peace whenever I’m simply taking my time.

Even so, at first, I was definitely taken aback by how much content this game has to offer. What about you? Was this an issue for you, or did you slide pretty comfortably into the rhythm of the adventure? Let us know in the comments below!
