Throughout the past several months, especially, one of the main topics surrounding The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been its general air of mystery. For many fans, the discussions have understandably been less about what’s in the game and more about how little we actually know. Some have found Nintendo’s comparatively reserved marketing strategy refreshing, while others have been doubtful that the game will boast enough newness to re-create the same sense of awe and wonder as its predecessor.

For as much as I’ve appreciated the secrecy, a part of me still yearned for that extra hook. I’d certainly been looking forward to the game, but I’d be lying if I said I was as excited for this installment as I was for Breath of the Wild. Given the pedigree of the Zelda team — not to mention the amount of time they’ve spent developing this game — I trust that Tears of the Kingdom won’t feel like glorified DLC. Even so, I’ve needed something more tangible — a clearer indication of the game’s ambitions. For instance, how will this title modernize and expand upon that which I love about not only Breath of the Wild, but also Zelda as a whole?

Fortunately, this trailer is just what I needed. Of course, it’s impossible to judge the game until we’ve played it ourselves, let alone with only 20 minutes of footage since 2019. And admittedly, after both Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity, I’m still skeptical about the story itself. I worry that this footage, like the famous 2017 Breath of the Wild trailer that it evokes, might be using the right combination of music and visuals to make the narrative seem more engaging than it actually is. Time will tell, but after two games in a row, I can’t help but be more cautious this time around.

Despite that, there’s so much to love about this final trailer. From a gameplay perspective, so many unique ideas are presented that it’s difficult to process them all. Additionally, the alterations to this familiar world aim to make it feel brand new again. Simply put, the sheer amount of creativity on display is just infectious.

Regardless of your anticipation level for Tears of the Kingdom up to this point, I’m curious — how has this latest trailer moved the needle for you? Have any of your concerns been quelled? Are you still skeptical about certain aspects? Let us know in the comments below!
