Tunic is a new indie game filled to the brim with adventures, puzzles, and a heroic fox clad in green. As Zelda fans, it looks like candy to our eyes, so it’s no surprise that Tunic creator Andrew Shouldice has cited The Legend of Zelda as an influence.

In a recent interview, Shouldice praised the 1986 title and how it held the “promise of a big world to explore.” Shouldice also indicated that, similar to Breath of the Wild, Tunic players will be be able to surpass obstacles in several different ways. However, Shouldice does veer away from a classic Zelda convention, stating that their “favourite type of puzzles tend to skew away from the room-by-room, light-the-torches-in-the-right-order-to-progress sort of puzzle, and more in the direction of subtle secrets that don’t try and draw a lot of attention”.

Another influence on Tunic includes the tangible air of mystery in Dark Souls: Bloodborne, and the interview also touches on some other aspects of Tunic, such as the isometric perspective, the geometric art design, and the feeling of wonderment instilled into the player.

Tunic was first announced with a gameplay trailer at E3 2017, and now we’ve finally met the release date of March 16th, 2022. Tunic is available for download on various platforms, including Xbox and Steam. You can also follow the game on Twitter for updates and join the discord here!
