Pure Chaos Reigns in This Randomizer for the CD-i Zelda Games
Posted on April 28 2021 by Emi Curtis
It’s not often we get to talk about The Wand of Gamelon and The Faces of Evil, the two CD-i black sheep of the Zelda family, in the same context that we talk about other Zelda titles. Due to their absolutely atrocious voice acting and gameplay, most don’t really consider them “real” Zelda games, anyway. However, thanks to some particular dedication by one of the games’ staunch defenders, both can now claim to have one more thing in common with the mainline Zelda series.
Programmer and CD-i enthusiast Dopply, whom we covered a couple months ago for his remasters of the CD-i Zelda titles, has now developed a randomizer mode for them. Like many other Zelda randomizers, Dopply’s new application swaps around the locations of items, bosses, NPCs, and world unlocks within the games; offering a whole new level of chaos to these outcasts of the Zelda series.
Dopply’s CD-i Remasters remain only available for download via the Merlin’s Palace Discord server after his decision to remove the links from public access. However, if you’re willing to hop over and snag them, a randomized time with Morshu and pals awaits you!
Once you’ve picked up the CD-i Remasters from Merlin’s Palace, you can download the randomizer application for the CD-i games at Dopply’s page on archive.org. You can also check out Dopply on Twitter here for more CD-i related projects.
What are your thoughts? Are you excited for mixed up adventure in Koredai? Or is randomizing the CD-i games just asking for trouble? Let us know in the comments below!
