Daily Debate: Would You Like To See Link Or Zelda’s Mothers In A Future Zelda Game?
Posted on April 03 2019 by Sean Gadus
Mothers are in short supply in the Zelda universe. In almost every game, Link is an orphan, with a mother who has died, leaving Link to be raised by an uncle or grandmother. Zelda also often suffers the loss of her mother, or worse, the mother is not spoken of. In Breath of the Wild, the queen of Hyrule dies suddenly when Zelda was a young girl, leaving a void in the princess’s life. This maternal void lingers in Breath of the Wild, detailed in several journal entries hidden within Hyrule Castle.
With this in mind, should Link’s mother or Zelda’s mother appear in a future Zelda game? In Breath of the Wild, it is clear that Zelda’s mother had a strong impact on her, despite the queen of Hyrule not appearing in the game.
It’d be exciting to see the Queen mentoring her daughter and giving her advice and guidance. Similarly, it would be intriguing to explore Link’s bond with a mother, a relationship we have never seen within a Zelda game. The inclusion of either Link and Zelda’s mothers would open up some exciting storytelling opportunities and their relationships result in even greater depth to two of gaming’s most beloved characters!
