Put down those pitchforks; it’s just time for another weekly ZI Photoshop Contest! You may have been upset by Tuesday’s Daily Debate on so-called “Zelda clones,” but believe me, that truly is a term of absolute endearment. So to honor the games that were inspired by The Legend of Zelda, we’ll be crossing them over with, well, The Legend of Zelda. But before we get there, we need to look at last week’s contest: Free Week!

Over the last few months, artist David Pilatowsky has been releasing a series of amazing watercolor artworks that combine Legend of Zelda characters and Pokémon. We’ve seen an array of different Pocket Monsters dressed up in Zelda attire; we’ve seen ones that take on the role of our favorite heroes and our favorite villains. This week, Pilatowsky released his fourth set of crossover art, this time bringing Pokémon into the world of Majora’s Mask

The most widely recognized Nintendo characters usually hail from the Mario and Zelda franchises, so it just makes sense that they would cross over sometime. Most everyone knows that Link is now a playable character in Mario Kart 8, but did you know that Easter eggs tying these two video game giants together have been present since their very first games?

The most mind-blowing Easter egg to me was that a total of 10 Mario enemies can be found in Link’s Awakening, including fan-favorite Mario boss

With Link making a guest appearance in Mario Kart 8, Kotaku has assembled an article detailing all of the times the Zelda and Mario franchises have crossed over. Starting with The Legend of Zelda and the Manhandla, going all the way to the current Mario Kart 8 DLC, Kotaku has chronicled over a dozen instances of find Link in Mario and Mario in Zelda. The Zelda series’ most successful crossover game, Hyrule Warriors, has gained over one million sales worldwide. The crossover was met with hostility from many Zelda fans at first, but Hyrule Warriors still managed to become Koei Tecmo’s most successful game.

We know Nintendo plans to start the development of more Wii U crossover games this year, so why not…

To say Zelda and Pokémon belong together might be a crazy notion, but when it comes to art they mix together quite well. In this case, artist David Pilatowsky has crafted masterful crossover artwork, all in a watercolor art style. We’ve featured some of this work over our social media outlets in the past, but he recently informed us of a second batch of art he just released. Given the sheer quality of this art, I felt inclined to share it in a more uniformed manner – why should only select people on social media get to enjoy…

If you’ve ever had the longing desire to see your favorite, Nintendo characters in another game, you might wonder how that process comes about. Of course there might be some marketing behind it, but with a character as inspiring as Link, the idea of paying tribute to the Legend of Zelda series as either DLC or an crossover is an honor for developers and fans to enjoy. Hit the jump to hear what Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto’s reasoning…

The Legend of Zelda has had its fair share of crossover Easter eggs. Whether it be Link’s cap showing up in Kirby games, to Zelda’s jingle playing in Super Mario 3D Land, to Link racing alongside Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach in Mario Kart 8, the population of Hyrule has found its way into little nooks and crannies of other franchises throughout its history.

Now, we’re nearing the launch of a crossover of proportions never before seen in Zelda

There are often a lot of comparisons between games like Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, The Legend of Zelda, and any other high fantasy adventure/RPG type game. What we haven’t seen is a lot of crossover art. Today that changes, thanks to deviantArt user mintyfreshmangos. He decided to capture the essence of Dark Souls and Majora’s Mask in one piece of art, which was crafted as a piece of cover art for a crossover album of sorts. Head inside.

It goes without saying that fans of the Legend of Zelda series enjoy a good adventure. Many of those fans have thrust their favorite adventurer into a multitude of different worlds, imagining journeys of their own within everything from Minecraft to Skyrim and beyond. Even Nintendo has jumped on the “mash-up train” with the new Hyrule Warriors slated for release September 26. Well, one YouTube user under the name “The Pixel Kingdom” has created a new video that brings Game of Thrones into the land of Hyrule.
