Many fans have been wondering about the world of Tri Force Heroes. Though the demo featured different dungeon locations and the Nintendo Direct showed off a town, we were all unsure of how big this new game will be and how the world will be laid out. In a recent interview with Kotaku, director Hiromasa Shikata explained that Tri Force Heroes will not have an overworld map, but it will still feature various unique locations that players can explore.

Shikata offered a brief answer to Kotaku’s query about the overworld:

Kotaku: Is there an overworld map?

No, but there will be a castle, a town, and a colisseum battle mode, Shikata says.”

In addition to directing Tri Force Heroes, Hiromasa Shikata also served as the director of A Link Between Worlds. It would seem that Shikata is approaching Tri Force Heroes a bit differently from his previous Zelda game. Where A Link Between Worlds featured a reconstruction of A Link to the Past‘s sizable overworld, Tri Force Heroes will instead feature no overworld map at all.

This lack of overworld will surely disappoint fans looking for a new world to explore, especially considering that Tri Force Heroes is set in a new kingdom. However, a segmented world of unique locations may work better in a team-based Zelda game. (Just look at Four Swords Adventures). Not to mention, the game’s demo did feature unique locations like a forest, fortress, and volcano. Hopefully these areas alongside a new town and castle will help to build a satisfying world for Tri Force Heroes.

Are you disappointed to hear that Tri Force Heroes lacks an overworld? How do you think this will affect the game? Share you thoughts with us in the comments.
