Operation Moonfall Announces April and May Campaigns
Posted on March 28 2014 by Nathanial Rumphol-Janc
Operation Moonfall, a movement we helped create, is still pushing forward with a full head of a steam as we creep closer to E3. They have two completely free campaigns coming up and a full press release to describe all of the events. Of note, they would really like you to follow them on Twitter, as much of the campaign work will be communicated there.
Dearest Operation Moonfall supporters,
We are about to entire into an exciting few months together.
As the entire gaming industry moves closer and closer to E3 2014, the hype
train is moving into full gear. This is the time of year that we as gamers look
forward to more than any other, the time when we as the gaming public are
finally given a look at what developers have been secretly slaving away at.
Obviously the Operation Moonfall community has one game in particular that we
desire news on as much as (if not more so) than any other. We want our Majora’s
Mask remake.
Over the last few years Operation Moonfall has hosted
several activities designed to increase public interest in an HD Majora’s Mask,
culminating with the recently successful Operation Moonfall Kickstarter, which
succeeded in funding the creation of posters that were sent to both Japan and
American Nintendo offices (and no, we have yet to receive a response). The
months of April, May, and June will play host to two amazing new public
campaigns which we can now reveal in their entirety. Both of these campaigns
are designed to be shared extensively throughout social media so please, get a
Twitter and follow us. The more voices we have, the more likely Nintendo is to
hear.
April: Graffiti
Twitter Campaign
No I DO NOT want you all to drop what you are doing, head to
Home Depot and buy tons of spray paint. The Operation Moonfall graffiti
campaign will stay within the bounds of legal public art. The goal is simple,
using the provided template simply sketch the outline of Majora’s Mask with
chalk on any surface you like, affixed with the subtitle ‘#OpMoonfall’. Once
this is complete, snap an image and post it to twitter in the format shown
below.
It is VERY important to include @NintendoAmerica in your
tweet, since the people at Nintendo will not see your tweet unless you do so.
Equally important is the OpMoonfall hashtag. If possibly we would like to see
this hashtag trending on Twitter. We will be holding a competition during this
time as well. Users may submit photos of their chalk sketch to the Operation
Moonfall facebook page, and the 3 most impressive photos will be awarded with
posters from the Operation Moonfall Kickstarter. Winning photos will be judged
on location an artistic quality. With enough support of this campaign, we hope
to make quite a splash on Nintendo’s social media radar and who knows, maybe
some passerby will search the internet to see what exactly #OpMoonfall is, and
then create their own post!

Users who are unwilling or unable to do a chalk drawing may
purchase an official Operation Moonfall bumper sticker from Redbubble.com and
tweet that instead.

May-E3 Week: Happy
Mask Campaign
This is the big one guys. This has been a little while
coming, and has been extensively teased on the Operation Moonfall Facebook
page. Introducing, the Happy Mask Campaign! Working with prop outfit My Wicked
Armor, we have secured 15 blank replicas of Majora’s Mask, identical to the
ones Robert of My Wicked Armor will be offering for sale in his upcoming
Kickstarter. Those 15 masks will be mailed to 15 different Zelda fan artists,
each of whom will do a completely custom paint-job/alteration to their mask
(see the 501
st Legion As You Wish campaign for some similar
projects). Throughout the month of May these artists will live-blog the
renovation of their masks for the public to see. On the final day of May, our
15 artists will finish work on their masks and we will display the final
products online. The finished pieces will then go up for sale with 50% of
profits going to the artists themselves and 50% going to charity (we are open
to suggestions on which charity to use). At the conclusion of the campaign, a
wooden box containing a custom painted Operation Moonfall mask and high quality
photos of all 15 of the finished masks will be mailed to Nintendo of America
HQ.
Who are the 15
artists?
We are proud to announce that 3 of our masks have already
been spoken for! Artist Wes Talbott (designer of the Zelda LEGO prototypes),
artist EternalLegend (featured Zelda artist on DA), and acclaimed cosplayer Li
Kovacs have all agreed to decorate 3 of our masks. As for the other 12? They
are all up for grabs! If you would like to have on opportunity to decorate a
mask, simply submit samples of your work for consideration to opmoonfall@gmail.com
. ONLY USERS WITH AN ESTABLISHED ONLINE PORTFOLIO, DEVIANTART PAGE, OR ACADEMIC
PORTFOLIO WILL BE CONSIDERED. The guidelines are strict, but we are trying to
control the quality of the work that will be done here. Our final list of
artists will be announced on April 15
th, with the cutoff for
application being midnight on April 14
th.
partially painted Majora’s
Mask replica from My Wicked Armor.
Please note that all chosen artists will be responsible for
promoting the campaign on their own social media networks, as well as obligated
to turn in photos of a completed mask on the due date of May 31
st.
Artists will be asked to pay a 25 dollar fee to cover the cost of the mask, in
addition to any shipping requirement (domestic and international artists are
accepted).
Happy Mask Public
Competition:
We recognize that many of you may wish to custom decorate a
mask, even if you are not chosen as one of our 15 artists. If there is
sufficient interest, we will hold a public ‘no audition necessary’ competition
that anyone who has purchased one of My Wicked Armor’s masks from their
Kickstarter may enter, with 1
st, 2nd, and 3rd
place prizes. This competition would take place later in 2014, in order to give
Robert from MWA sufficient time to fulfill his Kickstarter.
