Happy Saturday, ladies and gents. How about we get the weekend started with another Zelda Informer Photoshop Contest? October is upon us, and many are beginning to decide what crazy costume they’ll use for Halloween this year. Our Facebook page recently kicked off the month by sharing a picture of the shameless “Woodland Warrior,” a knock-off Link costume that’s been spotted in costume stores. I must say this legally-distinct character is oddly endearing, which is why this week’s contest asks you to create your own Zelda knock-off costume. Share your skills, and check out the winners of last week’s contest: Turn a Zelda Villain into a Hero.

Last Week’s Contest:

Vaati seemed like a popular choice last week. I know I’d play a solo game starring him.

This Week’s Contest: Knock-Off Zelda Halloween Costumes

Your local costume store surely has plenty of great costumes to choose from, but we can’t hide from the fact that it probably has just as many embarrassingly bad ones too. Sometimes, Halloween costume manufacturers can’t get the license for costumes based on popular media franchises. So, they are forced to skirt the legal line with generically-named knock-off costumes that closely resemble an existing property. We’ve all seen the “Woodland-Warrior,” right?

This week’s contest is to create your own knock-off Zelda Halloween costume, akin to the Woodland Warrior costume seen above. This costume must be obviously inspired by a character from the Zelda series. But of course, it’ll need a legally-distinct character name as to not invite Nintendo’s litigious wrath. There are some images in the gallery below you can use, but feel free to use anything on the internet to complete your costume.

General Rules: Submit your entries in the comments section below.

  • To save images from the gallery, right click the image in the gallery (without opening the image in lightbox) and select open image in new tab. Go up to the address bar and delete __small from the URL. Hit enter, right click, and save!
  • Photoshop is not required to enter the contest. Any image manipulation software can be used to create your entry.
  • Some hand-drawn fan art is okay, but your entry must include some image manipulation to be considered.
  • If you use another fan’s original assets or likeness, please try to give them credit.
  • Please refrain from using offensive material (racial, sexual, overuse of offensive language, etc.) We want to make the contest fun and accessible for fans of all ages.
  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion at Zelda Informer. In fact, we encourage discussion based on those opinions. However, please do not insult other fans’ work. What may be funny to one person may not hold true for another…and that’s OK.
  • Have fun and be creative!

Deadline: Submit entries no later than Thursday at midnight: 11:59 p.m. PST on October 13. Entries submitted after this Deadline will not be considered.

Don’t forget to check back throughout the week and upvote your favorites, and maybe you will be one of next week’s winners!

Challenge Mode

For those that who want to test their skills with something more challenging, we have a few Challenge Rules for you to follow:

1. Your entry must also include four accessories that come with your costume.

2. Your costume must have a celebrity endorsement.

If you think you’re up to the challenge, include the phrase Challenge Accepted with your submission. Remember, Challenge Mode submissions follow the same rules and guidelines of the base Photoshop Contest in addition to the Challenge Rules.

Good luck!
