Well it is official – Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has basically passed 1 million in sales during it’s first week. I can’t say it did this for certain, but since digital sales are not counted in this data it is practically a certainty. Even not counting digital sales, it is the single biggest launch in Smash Bros. history… in Japan. Yesterday we got to see the overall list, but we missed out on hardware along with the exact sales. This time around we have that for you. Naturally this week, 3DS and PS4 sales increased with the release of both Super Smash Bros. and Destiny

It looks like the hype for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in Japan was too much for Destiny to handle, because the first portable entry in the series got the first place in the sales chart…

First week sales have arrived for Hyrule Warriors out of Japan, and, like all numbered statistics, you can interpret them in many different ways. Personally I’ll start by saying this: the sales weren’t great, but they weren’t horrible either. Hyrule Warriors finished at #2 for the week behind a rather popular Japanese 3DS game. That’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of in the land that values mobile and handheld gaming devices more than home console. The only question now that I have is if these sales will fall off or show some consistency week to week, like Mario Kart 8

Among its large—and still growing—library of impressive titles, the Nintendo 3DS is also home to two rather different, but similarly spectacular Zelda titles: Ocarina of Time 3D and A Link Between Worlds. The former a remake released in the dim, early days of the handheld, the latter a sequel released just last fall after such hits as Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. While Zelda titles tend to do rather well critically, sales can be a tougher point, making the commercial…

Nintendo has reported a loss for its first quarter of 2014. The loss isn’t overly large, but still worth mentioning. However I don’t really want to focus on those figures, as they won’t have any impact on the future of Nintendo as currently constructed, let alone the future of the Zelda franchise. Rather, I wanted to chat a bit about the Wii U sales figures and Mario Kart 8‘s impact on those sales.

The Wind Waker HD appears to be getting a boost on the digital charts in Europe this past few weeks, likely due to the release of Mario Kart 8. Outside of the fact there are a lot more Wii U owners, the free game program for buying Mario Kart 8 is in place across the globe, and The Wind Waker HD appears to be the popular choice. We’re even seeing an increase in views this past week for our The Wind Waker HD Walkthrough, letting us know we have a slew of new players out there. The Wind Waker HD isn’t the only Zelda game to grace the Top 20 charts. Head inside!

The reaction to Zelda U‘s reveal has been a bit of a mixed bag. While there are a ton of people that seem to love the art direction—something that seems like a mix of various other styles we have seen in the past (including Twilight Princess)—there seem to almost be an equal amount of detractors. There were a lot of people hoping for something close to the original tech demo (something Nintendo has yet to ever do). This was furthered by talk that Nintendo wanted Zelda U to be the best selling game in the franchise. Speculation ran rampant, including here, on just how they could accomplish that.

Sales still matter, but prior sales don’t affect the design principles behind new Zelda games. Could this mean that The Wind Waker sales had nothing to do with Twilight Princess? Head inside.

Nintendo has just released its quarterly financial report for the third portion of the 2013-2014 fiscal year and while the results were considerably poor for Wii U, 3DS continued to improve in winning over consumers. An interesting part of the report shows some exciting sales figures for the two awesome Zelda titles which released on Wii U and 3DS in 2013 providing their respective systems with some much needed sales momentum. A Link Between Worlds and The Wind Waker HD…

A Link Between Worlds has already been a big success in North America and Europe, and now its set to make its mark across the Pacific. The 3DS Zelda game set in the same overworld as A Link to the Past has topped sales data for its first week out in Japan after releasing there belatedly on December 26, 2013. More after the jump.

By now it’s no secret that the Zelda series is significantly more popular in the United States than it is in Japan. This wasn’t always the case, but really ever since Ocarina of Time hit in 1998 each game has slowly but surely sold more and more in our area than in its own motherland. Nintendo has tried various methods to invigorate sales in Japan for the series, but none of them have seemingly pulled it off. In Japan, we must note that handheld gaming is significantly more popular than console gaming, so when we start looking at sales numbers it is really Nintendo’s handheld line that tells the tale.
