Name a game and it’s most likely been influenced by The Legend of Zelda in some way, shape or form. From the expansive overworld with a scattering of smaller dungeons layout seen in various RPGs, lock-on targeting most notably seen in the Metroid Prime series, and even many shooters have been influenced by Ocarina of Time’s perspective-shifting aiming mechanics! It’s undeniable that without The Legend of Zelda, gaming today would be vastly different.

Today I’m going to be looking back at a game that not only highlights this importance, but also parodies it absolutely perfectly. That game is — as the title says — 3D Dot Game Heroes for the PlayStation 3.

The Zelda series has always been one to give slight nods to older games in the franchise. Even if they’re not actual storyline elements, the developers seem to like to hide references to older games, and as gamers, we definitely love to find them.
