Nintendo’s long-awaited online service for the Switch will officially launch on September 18th. There will be several subscription tiers, and customers will be able to subscribe monthly or yearly. All customers will be able to access a free one-week trial period and will be able to play certain classic NES titles. There are further details expected to be revealed during the Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow, and some NES games have yet to be revealed. Nintendo Switch Online will be required to play all multiplayer games online moving forward, and it will allow for cloud saves as well.

Personally, I’m wary of this service. I love my Switch, and having just purchased Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, I’m not thrilled to have to pay for online play. It’s become something of a necessity due to data costs, but even still. I personally hope we’ll see more than just NES games down the road with this service.
