Because of the Zelda franchise’s origins stemming from fantasy and medieval themes, the typical musical setting for our beloved series is usually classical or folk-adjacent. This being the case means that there is a criminal underuse of jazz music, with the exception of “Ballad of the Wind Fish” from Link’s Awakening. But all ye jazz lovers, fear not! There is always fan content galore.

This particular arrangement of the main theme from The Legend of Zelda by  TheOneUps gives us a wonderful version of the song in a bossa nova style. “Bossa De Link”, as the band calls it, gives us a chill, laid-back version of the tune, with the tenor saxophone taking the lead. Add some guitars, a bassist, some keys, and a Latin-inspired drum part (with the rhythm guitarist adding some tasteful egg-shaker), and you’ve got a lovely bossa nova! In this cover, the band actually shifts momentarily into the Dark World theme from A Link to the Past, which is a fun little detail!

The visuals add some fun to this arrangement as well. The band is dressed in matching jumpsuits with their logo on the side, and they’re playing in what looks like a decked out game room or arcade. They’ve also added some monochrome visuals from every game throughout the video, which adds a touch of nostalgia to the whole experience.

If you liked that cover, make sure to check out the band’s YouTube channel for more fantastic jazz covers, including covers of “Theme A” from Tetris and “Metal Man’s Theme” from Mega Man 2. The signature jumpsuits and the fun visuals come standard with every video of theirs, so check them out!
