Dreamland

In this latest article feature, we’re going to take a look back and another great Bombers Article from Zelda Informer. This one, entitled “Dreamland” is an explanation of a theory which claims that Termina is not a country adjacent to Hyrule, nor is it in an alternate dimension. This article argues that Termina is a dream. This dream is a result of multiple minds, namely Skull Kid and Link. The article uses the known dreamland of Koholint, the island shown in my favorite Zelda title: Link’s Awakening, to prove the theory. The author uses this other game to draw connections and show silimarities. The logic states that since they have similarities, it is hard to disprove this theory.

Here is one such connection the author draws is that of the people in Link’s Awakening and Majora’s Mask:

The first topic to look at is the inhabitants of each world. The connection here is obvious, the populations of Koholint and Termina are drawn from different incarnations of Hyrule (A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, respectively). On Koholint Island, Marin is an obvious representation of Zelda, while Tarin may be based off of Link’s uncle and Sahasrahla may have inspired Ulrira (and possibly the owl). There are not many examples since there were not that many characters to begin with, but Termina is a different story. Nearly every person in Termina looks like someone from Hyrule. The difference is that on Koholint, the new characters were based off of major characters, while in Termina they were based off of minor character. Nevertheless, it is still something both locations have in common.

I personally love this theory. It explains many of the problems that theorists have. It solves how Link arrives in Termina, why there are so many similar characters, and why he ends up in the moon. I think this article is a great look at two of my favorite Zelda titles, but beyond that I think that the theory is sounds and looks a little deeper into the game that most players do.
