Ever since Ocarina of Time, the majority of Zelda games have introduced a plethora of companions, ranging from Navi to Fi. However, with the latest game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo decided not to include any companions. As the role of companions in previous Zelda games were to mainly give Link clues on where to go next, I can see why Nintendo decided against including them as part of Breath of the Wild due to its open-world and open-ended story.

However, when I first saw the trailers for the game, I honestly thought that I would be running around the world with Zelda at my side exploring the world, similar to how Skyrim’s companions work. They could have their own story quest line and still have little effect on the main story as a whole, which was and is something I would like to see in the Zelda franchise.

Basically, my question for you is this: Should the Zelda franchise have Skyrim-esque companions and in what way? Let us know in the comments below!
