What if the Triforce was divided more haphazardly? In the era of re-incarnation and cyclical enemies, the Zelda series has an opportunity to go beyond the norm for once. Instead of having Link inheriting the Triforce of Courage, what if he inherited the Triforce of Power and served as the main story’s antagonist?

I’d always imagined this sort of flipped scenario since Skyward Sword introduced Groose. While we were encouraged to dislike Groose initially, the game fostered an environment and storyline to support him in his journey to become Link’s ally. In a similar vein, I would like to imagine a future game in the Zelda franchise where Ganondorf is actually a redeemable character who carries the Triforce of Courage and Demise instead is working through Link (and the Triforce of Power) to take an alternate route to exact his revenge. Indeed there would be several plot holes to hammer out to satisfy the purists of the franchise, but it would be a novel twist to switch the “good guys” and “bad guys”. Moreover, this sort of game could allow for a new relationship dynamic between Ganondorf and Zelda. I know I would be suspicious still of Ganondorf’s motives still, just as I remained for Groose throughout Skyward Sword.

What are your thoughts on this type of game switch-up? How would you imagine this sort of story to unfold if Link were the one seeking to upend the stability of Hyrule? Leave your thoughts and ideas below!
