Daily Debate: Should Ganon Appear in a Beast Form That Isn’t Porcine?
Posted on January 06 2020 by Heather Beard
We all know him and we all love to hate him — Ganon. Ganondorf. Calamity Ganon. He is the embodiment of evil and malicious power, and when you throw a whole ton of that evil power together you get what we know as Beast Ganon. This incarnation of the big, bad boss has made an appearance in nearly every Zelda game. When we see Beast Ganon, he almost always has the resemblance of a large pig or wild boar. Should he make an appearance as a beast that isn’t porcine though?
I’m gonna give everyone a hard no. It just doesn’t seem right to me. What other animal would he turn in to, and why would he turn into something else? The only instance I can think of where there’s a “Beast Ganon” that isn’t porcine is in The Wind Waker. Ganondorf appears as “Puppet Ganon”, taking on the forms of a spider and a caterpillar. I’m okay with that. Puppet Ganon didn’t feel like any form of a real animal; it was just sorcery and puppetry. I think it would be weird to see Ganon be anything other than a pig-beast. The tusks and long snout are scary and intimidating. And Dark Beast Ganon from Ocarina of Time is truly terrifying! There’s just something about taking a pig and making it dark that’s eerie. Why would developers change something that has been working for so many years anyway? Maybe I’m just a stickler for it remaining true to what is has always been — a giant pig beast set to destroy the world!
What do you think? Should Ganon appear in a non-porcine beast form? Sound off in the comments below!
