The Legend of Zelda was the game that started it all. If not for this game, none of us would be here in the community discussing some of our other favorite entries. While it laid the foundation for other Zelda games, and was probably one of the best games for the Nintendo Entertainment System, not all games from this era tend to hold up under a modern lens. Gaming has changed so much over the past couple decades in terms of gameplay, puzzle, and level design. Whether it was by choice or limitation, some design aspects seen in the original game would probably not be considered by most modern game designers. This does not necessarily mean the game does not hold up, but we try to get to the bottom of it in the newest entry in our Hyrule Compendium series.

What do you think of our discussion? Do you think the game holds up? Let’s have a chat about it in the comments! The Hyrule Compendium is a series of brief discussions of all things Zelda. If you would like to see more, check out this playlist. We also have a lot of other fun series over on our Youtube channel including Jamie Plays Zelda, Zelda Warfare, and more! You are going to want to head on over there and subscribe to get in on the action!
