Hot off the heels of the Hyrule Warriors Direct, more information has been revealed regarding the Adventure Mode in Hyrule Warriors. For those unaware, this is an extra gameplay mode outside of the primary story mode which borrows the aesthetics of The Legend of Zelda‘s map to create a grid with unique challenges in each square. These challenges, undertaken in the form of Hyrule Warriors‘ gameplay, will often involve defeating enemies within a certain time limit and can unlock items and even playable characters who cannot be obtained any other way. Rewards can also be unlocked through a special “search” mode which utilizes items from the original game.

In an interview with Game Informer, Producer Yosuke Hayashi explained how the feature, known as “network link”, will work:

“The Adventure Mode features a ‘Network Link’ feature. This allows you to add a ‘Link’ to your maps whose level is based on other users’ play data. If you come to this Link’s aid and fight alongside him, you’ll get access to special bonuses.” — Yosuke Hayashi

This seems like a fun way to expand upon what already appears to be a worthwhile alternate to the main game, although I still think I’ll be enjoying the local co-op much more. What are your thoughts? Is this a good use of the online functionality?
