Update: The Yoshi challenge mode rule has been removed.

Super Mario Maker has finally been released, and the Zelda Informer staff have come up with an event to kick off the launch of this highly-anticipated title in the Super Mario franchise. The name of this event is the “Zelda Maker Jam.”

Zelda Maker Jam is a competition that will run from now until the 30th of September. In this period of time, participants will get to know Super Mario Maker and familiarize themselves with level design. Who can enter? Anyone with a copy of Super Mario Maker!

Details

  • All submissions must be posted in the comments.
  • In the comment, you must include your full course ID.
  • All courses must be themed around The Legend of Zelda
  • All courses must include a Zelda powerup (Link, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Ganondorf, or Tingle). Keep in mind costume powerups can be unlocked without amiibo.
  • Due to requiring a Zelda powerup, your course must be crafted in the classic Super Mario Bros. Style
  • You may only choose one category, and enter one course
  • You can change your course submission up until the deadline. Simply edit your comment to change the course ID, and add [EDITED] to the comment.
  • Entries are taken until the 30th
  • The only way your entry counts is if you register with a valid email address to ZeldaInformer.com – a disqus account alone, nor a guest comment, will not be good enough. This allows us to contact the winner to deliver their prize more easily.

There will be a total of 1 winner each for these three categories:

Entertainment:

The creator will design a Zelda-themed course that is fun to play. The course should be entertaining, and not too hard.

Stump the Staff

Think you have what it takes to stump the Zelda Informer staff? Design a Zelda-themed course that is almost impossible for us to beat, and the most skilled Mario players on our staff will put it to the test.

Challenge Mode

Think you can create a Zelda-themed course following a more specific set of rules? Then challenge mode is for you. Here are the Challenge Mode guidelines:

  1. There must be at least two boss fights
  2. There must be at least three Zelda powerups
  3. All enemies must be their larger versions, except for Hammer Brothers
  4. There must be at least three custom sounds

If you win a category, you get FREE STUFF! Keep in mind you can only enter one of the categories.

The Winner

  • Winners are chosen collectively by participating staff
  • Courses will be livestreamed by a staff member, as well as runner-up courses
  • Winners will receive a free T-Shirt
  • Winner’s courses will be advertised in an individual post on ZeldaInformer.com

That’s it! Pick a category, follow the rules. and go bananas. Winners will be announced in October. See you then!
