Thought we were alone in wanting Zelda U? This was a poll result from GameSpot before the event, the second-most visited video game site in the world.

By now I am sure all of you know about my incorrect prediction that Zelda U would be shown off this past Saturday during VGX. If you didn’t, know that I firmly believed VGX made sense as an overall platform to unveil Zelda U. It had the right audience in my mind to try and bring non-Nintendo gamers back in the fold, and Zelda is one franchise Nintendo has that seems to have fans outside of the Nintendo faithful. I was wrong, and Nintendo went the safe route in showing off Cranky Kong as a playable character in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Now that the show has come and gone, I understand why Nintendo chose to show what they did. Furthermore, my reaction since Saturday may be a bit surprising: I’ve done a complete 180 and now fully believe Nintendo did the right thing in not showing off Zelda U.

Game announcements are certainly exciting. It’s the first step to getting our hands on a new experience, adventure, or thrill. Zelda games certainly aren’t exempt from this excitement, so Spike TV’s Video Game Awards on Saturday bring some promise for the Nintendo community. We’ll ultimately have to wait and see what’s in store, but hit the jump to see what’s being teased for tomorrow!

After the latest Spike TV Video Game Awards this evening the winners have been announced. Even with high hopes Skyward Sword did not win Game of the Year, that honor went to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Zelda however did win in two other categories, Best Wii Game and Best Motion Game. Both are very clear wins for Zelda. Skyward Sword was still a strong contender this year going up against other industry giants such as Elder Scrolls and Batman:Arkham City….

In a recent press release, it was revealed that Skyward Sword has been one of the games nominated for Game of the Year by Spike TV. Skyward Sword joins Batman: Arkham City, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception as the games that have been nominated.
