"A sword-and-shield combo modified for use by left-handed warriors. Charge energy by holding down the Strong Attack button, and then release for a powerful Spin Attack!"

— In-game description

The Hylian Sword is the default weapon class used by Link in Hyrule Warriors. With this weapon class, Link wields a sword and shield.

Variations

  • Knight's Sword: The Level 1 variation. The sword is silver-grey with a dark grey indent, and is paired with a thick grey cross-guard, a grey and blue grip, and a silver pommel. The shield is cast iron with a studded, brown outer edge, and the boss features two designs: the left side features an ornamental pattern, while the right side features the vertical blue stripes of the Hyrulean Army. The scabbard is wooden, with a metal tip and rim.
  • White Sword: The Level 2 variation. The sword is pure white with a blue indent running along the entire blade, and is paired with a blue cross-guard, blue grip, and a gold pommel; the cross-guard features two hoops on either end, and a yellow gem is inset in the center. The shield is white with a blue outer edge, and features an ornamental design in blue and gold. Named after the White Sword from The Legend of Zelda.
  • Magical Sword: The Level 3 variation. The sword is serrated, with an ornamental indent featuring red gems, and glows red with magic. The blade is paired with a silver cross-guard, a red-and-scarlet grip, and a gold pommel with a red gem inlaid in it; the cross-guard features a highly ornamental design, with four red gems and two orange gems embedded in it. The shield is red with a gold outer edge and features a cross design similar to that of the Magical Shield, with a golden, upside-down triangle in the center, and a circular indent at the center of the cross. Named after the Magical Sword from The Legend of Zelda, although the sword combines the color scheme of the former game with the design of The Adventure of Link.
  • 8-Bit Wooden Sword: The Level ★ variation. Link wields the Sword and Shield from The Legend of Zelda, rendered in 3D. The shield features a diamond symbol rather than a cross, likely to cater to modern gaming audiences.
  • Magical Sword +: The Level 4 variation. Its appearance is identical to the Magical Sword.
  • Darkmagic Sword: The Level 4+ variation. Its appearance is identical to the Magical Sword, but with a purple, grey, and black color scheme.

Moveset

NOTE: This section also covers the Master Sword, which uses the same moveset but with certain differences. After completing A War of Spirit, the Master Sword gains the ability to fire Sword Beams after certain attacks.

Attack Description
Base String? Link performs a string of nine attacks; He slashes right, slashes left, spins and slashes left, slashes up, slashes right, slashes left, slashes right again, slashes left again, and performs a small, vertical Spin Attack in mid-air. When using the Master Sword and at full health, the completed string fires three Sword Beams ahead.
C1? Link performs a Spin Attack; You can hold X / Y to charge the attack and move freely before performing it. When using the Master Sword, the Spin Attack has a wider radius, and the charged version carries Link forward.
C2? Link performs a rising low blow that knocks enemies into the air; While airborne, this can be extended into three horizontal slashes (YYY/BBB) and an explosive Down Thrust (X/Y), which can be used separately or in order. When using the Master Sword and at full health, the initial swing fires a Sword Beam ahead, and each aerial slash fires a horizontal Sword Beam below.
C3? Link vaults back, before charging forward with a right slash that fires a horizontal Sword Beam ahead. When using the Master Sword and at full health, the attack shoots three Sword Beams in an arc.
C4? Link performs a rising Spin Attack that knocks enemies into the air; While airborne, this can be extended into three horizontal slashes (YYY/BBB) and an explosive Down Thrust (X/Y), which can be used separately or in order. When using the Master Sword and at full health, each aerial slash fires a horizontal Sword Beam below.
C5? Link charges forward with his shield in front, juggling enemies, before performing an overhead thrust; You can extend the duration for a short time by mashing X / Y . Uniquely, this Combo Attack can be performed at any point in the base string, from the fourth attack onwards.
Special Attack Link raises his sword to the air, charging it with sacred power, before dashing forward with a series of wide Spin Attacks.
Focus Spirit Finisher Manual: Link backflips away, before performing a powerful forward thrust in front of him.
Automatic: Link raises his sword to the air, before releasing his remaining magic in an explosion of light around him.
Weak Point Smash Enemy Officer/Warrior: Link performs a series of slash attacks, followed by a forward thrust.
Giant Boss: Link stabs his sword deep into the Giant Boss's core, going all the way down to the hilt.

Notes

  • Holding X / Y after performing the C2, C3, or C4 will cause Link to charge a Spin Attack. Compared to the C1 version, the Spin Attack has a smaller radius, but is faster, carries Link further forward, and lets him move faster while charging.
  • Pressing X / Y after dodging left, right, or backwards will make Link perform an overhead thrust.
