With the Japanese release a mere month away, Nintendo is continuing to drive excitement for one of its biggest releases of the year: Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS. While yet another tournament is set to occur during this week’s Gamescom festivities, this is not the only recent news surrounding the character laden brawler. Today has proved to be quite the day for the franchise with the announcement of a returning character who was teased earlier this week and, more surprisingly, a special edition 3DS XL slated to release on October 3rd alongside the game in Europe.

Nintendo of Europe confirmed the release of this bundle this morning via its Twitter account, clarifying the details in a statement:

13th August 2014 – European Smash Bros. fans are set for a treat when the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Limited Edition Pack launches simultaneously with Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS on 3rd October. This package gives fans the chance to own a red Nintendo 3DS XL* system with a striking Super Smash Bros. motif emblazoned on the front, available whilst stocks last. This limited edition hardware comes with a pre-installed digital copy of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, so players can get straight into battle, right out of the box.

While having the game pre-installed may not seem like a big deal at first, it’s a nice touch since these bundles tend to come with a download code instead. Are those of you in Europe planning to pick up one of these sweet special editions? Are those of you elsewhere counting down the days until we get this bundle as well?
