The Depths are very dark with no light from the [[Surface]] reaching down. A small amount of light appears from Lightroots, but Link can use [[Brightbloom Seed]]s to light up the area. When Link reaches a Lightroot, he can activate it, which will bring light to the Depths in the immediate area.
In the Depths, no light from the [[Surface]] can penetrate down, so everything is pitch black. However, Lightroots emit a faint glow, and Link can illuminate his surroundings using [[Brightbloom Seed]]s or any other objects that emit light, such as fire. Upon reaching a Lightroot, Link can activate it, illuminating the immediate area. The brightness of each Lightroot varies and can be intensified by activating surrounding Lightroots.

Each Lightroot corresponds with a [[Shrine of Light]] that is on the Surface. Furthermore, each Lightroots name is the same as its corresponding Shrine that is directly above it, just with the letters spelled backwards.
