Originally published in 1990 with an indicia (copyright info) title of ''Link: The Legend of Zelda'', a reprinting of the series took place in 1991. These can be identified as the trade dress (non-image elements on the covers) was slightly altered; changing the issue number and price to a taller font, adding a cover date, and reordering the "NINTENDO COMICS SYSTEM" banner. In addition, the covers of #2 and #4 were swapped; and the cover price was reduced from $1.95 US/$2.50 Canadian to $1.50 US/$1.95 Canadian. The reprinting also reordered several stories.

The Legend of Zelda was a five-issue series published by Valiant Comics, with a prospective sixth issue ultimately published as Nintendo Comics System #7. Loosely based on the contemporary The Legend of Zelda cartoon - and, by extension, the original The Legend of Zelda game & The Adventure of Link - each issue contained multiple stories, including bonus material.

Originally published in 1990 with an indicia (copyright info) title of Link: The Legend of Zelda, a reprinting of the series took place in 1991. The reprinting also reordered several stories between issues, and dropped "It's Good to be the King" (from the original printing of #4) entirely.
