The Hero's Sword Quest is a Main quest you obtain by failing to pull the Master Sword out the first time. To complete the quest you must have 13 hearts(Golden hearts do not count towards your total hearts) to pull the sword out or you will die. The Great Deku Tree will stop you before you die the first time, but after that, he will let you lose all your hearts. Once you finally pull the sword out of its pedestal, a cutscene will trigger showing Zelda placing the sword in the pedestal.
