Skyward Sword Upgrades

Below, you'll find a Skyward Sword Upgrades guide, listing all of upgrades that can be found for every item and piece of equipment that Link aquires. These upgrades can be found throughout the game, while others can be forged in Skyloft after Link collects certain treasures. Just about every piece of equipment can be upgraded throughout the quest. For full context as to where each upgrade can be acquired, be sure to take a look at our Skyward Sword Walkthrough.

To actually upgrade your items, you must visit the Scrap Shop located in the Bazaar on Skyloft. To upgrade an item, you will need certain Treasures to created the shield. These Treasures can be found all across the surface, from defeated enemies, and also in pots and jars. To see a full list of the Treasures and where they can be found, head over to our Treasure page to learn more.

Along with this, you will also need to pay the rupee fee associated with the upgrade. This ranges from item to item, but will grow higher each time you upgrade a certain item.

50		 The Wooden Shield is the first shield in Skyward Sword, either received from Instructor Owlan or bought from the Item Shop. It is the weakest of the all the shields, and is susceptible to burning. To make up for this weakness, it is insulated against electricity.

 30 The Banded Shield is the second Shield encountered in Skyward Sword and offers a much greater resistance to attacks then that of the Wooden Shield. Where the Wooden Shield failed against enemy attacks, this Shield will be able to take much more damage.

 50 The Braced Shield is the third Shield encountered in Skyward Sword and offers a much greater resistance to attacks then that of the Banded Shield. This Shield will also protect against electric attacks, but still won't block fire attacks.

Iron Shields

Iron Shield		 100 The Iron Shield is an upgraded version of the wooden type of shield. It is much more durable than the Wooden Shield, and is also immune to burning. Unlike the Wooden Shield, it is weak against electrical based attacks.

 50 The Reinforced Shield is the first shield upgraded from the Iron Shield. It adds increased durability, and blocks better than the Iron Shield.

 100 The Fortified Shield is the second shield upgraded from the Iron Shield. This is the toughest shield made of iron, but it still doesn't protect against electric attacks.

Sacred Shields

Sacred Shield		 500 This shield is very Sacred, as the name implies. It has a short damage meter, but it will slowly replenish when damaged. It resists most types of attacks including Fire and Electricity, and has high durability.

 100 The Divine Shield is the first upgraded form of the Sacred Shield. It is more durable than the Sacred Shield, and like it, shares the power to restore itself over time.

 150 The Goddess Shield is the second upgraded form of the Sacred Shield. It is more durable than the Divine Shield, and like it and the Sacred Shield, can restore itself over time.

From the Beginning Small Wallet
Small Wallet		 Free The Small Wallet is the first wallet in Skyward Sword, with Link from the start of the game. It will carry up to 300 rupees.
Beedle's Airshop Extra Wallet
Extra Wallet
100 The Extra Wallet is the first upgraded wallet. It can be found in Beedle's Airshop and will cost Link 100 rupees to buy. It will allow him to carry 300 more rupees.
Batreaux's House Medium Wallet

 Free This upgraded wallet is given to Link by the demon Batreaux after obtaining five gratitude crystals. It will allow Link to carry 500 rupees at a time, adding 200 more rupees to the Extra Wallet.

 Free This upgraded wallet is given to Link by the demon Batreaux after obtaining thirty gratitude crystals. It will allow Link to carry 1,000 rupees at a time, adding 500 more rupees to the Medium Wallet.

 Free This upgraded wallet is given to Link by the demon Batreaux after obtaining fifty gratitude crystals. It will allow Link to carry 5,000 rupees at a time, adding 4,000 more rupees to the Big Wallet.

 Free This upgraded wallet is given to Link by the demon Batreaux after obtaining eighty gratitude crystals. It will allow Link to carry 9,000 rupees at a time, adding 4,000 more rupees to the Big Wallet.

Beetle		 Free The Beetle is a mechanical flying device found after defeating the mini-boss of the Skyview Temple. It will fly in the air for a limited time, and in this form is only able to activate switches.
Lanayru Desert Hook Beetle

Free The Hook Beetle is the first upgrade to the Beetle, given to Link by Scrapper in the Lanayru Desert. This version of the Beetle will be able to fly longer distances, and will also pick up and drop bombs.

Mitts

Digging Mitts		 Free The Digging Mitts are gloves that will allow Link to dig into certain spots in the ground. The only spots he can dig are ones with an "X" over them. Most of the time the holes produce rupees, but they will also pop out health and rare items.
Fire Sanctuary Mogma Mitts
Mogma Mitts
Free The Mogma Mitts are an upgraded version of the Digging Mitts. Found in the Fire Sanctuary, they will allow Link to dig holes into the ground, and crawl through the caverns underneath.

Slingshot

Slingshot		 Free The Slingshot can be obtained after finding all the Kikwi for the Elder in Faron Woods. This item will allow Link to shoot Deku Seeds at faraway objects to help him advance in his quest.

Heart Potion		 20 Link's trusty medicine makes its return Skyward Sword and as always it must be stored within a bottle. The bottle can be equipped and drunk without a break in gameplay, meaning Link will be vulnerable while drinking. Unlike before, though, Link will be able to continue moving while drinking. When Link drinks a Heart Potion, eight of his hearts are replenished.
