The Temple of the Ocean King guide below is meant for those who have already completed the game, or at the very least, already have the Phantom Sword. The goal of this guide is to help you complete the Temple of the Ocean King with a full 25 minutes of sand left in the hourglass. This is not a necessity in the game, but the amount of time left in your Hourglass when completing the Temple will appear on your collection screen. This is often a requirement if a player wants to 100% Complete the game.

Before even entering the Temple, Link should have already collected all 25 minutes of the sand of hours. If you are missing some sand please refer to the Sand of Hours guide. If you already have the Swordsman’s Scroll, you can do many portions of the temple quicker, but it is not necessary. It is also a good idea to begin the temple with both Bombchu upgrades so Link can carry a total of 30 bombchus. You won’t need all 30, but having at least 15-20 is good enough.

There are a few things that you must keep in mind when going for a perfect score. The yellow pots that Link will find are essential in adding time to your hourglass. You must get almost all of them and you have to get them at the proper time. Link can also not afford to be hit by a phantom or a Wizzrobe, as they will drain time away from Link. Link must use his inventory wisely. This means triggering Phantoms to come closer by smashing the hammer, using the boomerang to collect distant jars, using the grappling hook to pass several shortcuts, and using bombchus to hit distant switches.

While it is possible to complete the Temple with 25 minutes and gain all of the various treasures chests, it is wise to ignore them, at least for your first run through. Below is a floor by floor guide to getting Link through the Temple of the Ocean King with 25-minutes remaining in the hourglass.

Link starts this room with a full 25:00 minutes of sand in the hourglass. There isn’t much to do at all in this room, so you can just use roll across to the staircase. There are no enemies and there is a 3 safe zones in between you and your destination.

There are two phantoms patrolling the halls on this floor. From the safe zone, send a bombchu to the top of the screen to destroy the three blocks, allowing Link to easily access the top-left side of the room. You can kill the phantom walking along the bottom-right area of the screen if you’d like.

Wait until the phantom on the left side of the room just begins to walk downward. Then quickly run right, then up, and then left. Be sure to step on the switch so that the gate opens, allowing Link to reach the key at the top-left corner. Grab it and run back to the top-right of the screen and use it on the locked door. Make your way down to the floor below.

There are two phantoms on this floor. One is patrolling the southern portion of the room, while the other is a stationary one just rotating his vision. From the safe zone, use the hammer and smash the ground right in front of you. It will trigger the blue phantom to come check out what is going on. Without even leaving the safe zone, take a swing at the phantom to defeat him.

Now use a bombchu and send it straight downward and blow up the cracked wall for easy access to the southern part of the room. Still from the safe zone, place another bombchu and send it straight to the left to active the switch. Then quickly send another bombchu down and to the left, to hit the second switch. Hitting both switches will cause a small key to fall.

Equip the boomerang and once the phantom turns around and starts walking southward, sprint to the left and pull the lever to lower the flames. Then quickly run through the wall you blasted open and step on the switch to lower the spikes. Toss your boomerang and recover the key that is on your left. Quickly run back through the cracked wall, and sprint towards the door on the left side of the room. Use the key and step into the safe zone.

Equip the bombchus and send one to the left side of the room, blowing up the breakable wall. There is a yellow pot behind the wall. You don’t need to leave the safe zone. Just trace your boomerang’s path and break the jar to collect 30 seconds of sand. Then head down steps and you should have close to a full hourglass.

There are two phantoms patrolling two of the corners of the room. Use the hammer to trigger the phantom patrolling the northwest to come towards the safe zone. When his back is turned, swipe at him. When the second phantom is near the center of the room, use the hammer to draw him near and defeat him. Use the boomerang to pull in the small key that the phantom drops.

Quickly run to the north side of the room where the yellow pot is. Stand just above the two torches and use the grappling hook to create a tight rope. Break the yellow pot and grab the 30 seconds of sand that it leaves behind. Then use the tight rope to slingshot your way up to the higher platform and head up a screen.

Time is stopped in this checkpoint chamber room and there is a yellow pot available. Leave it alone for now as your sand should be near full at this time. Make your way down the steps at the top-right corner.

Once you arrive on this floor, immediately slash at the phantom that is right next to the safe zone. Once he is out of the way, send a bombchu to the left side of the room and defeat the phantom eye that patrols the northwest corner. Also send another bombchu through the small hole on the left and hit the switch. This will lower the spikes on the right side of the room, allowing Link to reach the small key. Link can also launch a series of bombchus to draw the second phantom nearby. Once nearby he can the hammer to draw him close and defeat him with his sword. This isn’t necessary as Link will have better opportunities to defeat or avoid him shortly.

Equip the bow and arrow and quickly run to the right. Launch an arrow in the eye switch and all the gust jars in the room will de-activate. Quickly run south, west, and north to where the key was dropped. Pick it up and also, if you haven’t defeated the second phantom in this room, do so now. Once he is gone, quickly run to the north of the room and head back up the steps to the checkpoint chamber.

Walk on over to the yellow pot but don’t break it! Lift it up and carry it down to the floor below. Walk with it to the northwest corner of the room and toss the yellow pot at the red pot, breaking both of them. Pick up the 30 seconds that is left behind while walking into the small puddle safe zone created by the red pot.

From here, send a bombchu up through two small holes and hit the switch that lower the nearby spikes. Run to the door at the northwest corner of the room. Unlock it and head down the steps to the next floor.

This room is quite simple. Just run towards the gust jar that is to your right. Use the gust to jump over the large gap and then quickly run to the safe zone. Then walk down the stairs to get to the sixth basement.

There are two phantom eyes and two phantoms in this room as well as a ton of gust jars blocking your way. None of that really matters since we have a direct path to the red door at the bottom of the screen. To make things easier you can use a bombchu to defeat the phantom eye that patrols the northeast corner of the room. Both of the phantoms will also walk right by the safe zone above, so you can wait and defeat them.

Once the coast is clear, from the safe zone head right just a bit and then down until you reach the switch. Step on it to turn off the gust jar just to your left and then run to the red door. Draw the hourglass symbol first, not the Triforce symbol. It should be still marked on your map from the very first time you were in this room. After the red doors opens, there is a golden jar in this room, so smash it to receive 30 more seconds of time into the hourglass. You should now be filled up completely at 25:00.

Leave the room through the door you came in and then tap on the red door once again. This time however, draw the Triforce symbol. The door will open once again, but in a different room. There is a yellow portal here that will let you save your time and return to the entrance but don’t use it. You earned an extra key on the 3rd floor that you have yet to use. If you return to the temple entrance and then later come back. Your time will be the same, but that extra key will be gone. Just carry on and head down the steps straight ahead to the seventh basement.

This room does look quite large with many moving platforms and phantoms, but because we have that extra key from earlier, this floor is simple. Get on the moving platform and as it is moving to the left, use your boomerang on the yellow pot below to fill up the hourglass back at 25:00. Transfer over to the platform moving upwards and be careful because arrows are being shot at you from the left. Transfer over to another upward platform and then step into the safe zone. You’ll notice a yellow pot just across the gap. Do not get it just yet as we will need it shortly.

You’ll see another north-south moving platform to your right. Once it is at its lowest point, use the grappling hook to hookshot over to the treasure chest. Quickly open it to get the round jewel and move to your right. If you did it quick enough, the platform should just be getting to the top of the screen. Walk across it and step into the safe zone. Wait until the phantom patrolling the northeast corner starts moving to the bottom of the room and then quickly dash for the locked door. Toss the crystal aside and open the locked door. Lift the crystal back up and be sure to place it in the safe zone, otherwise a Phantom will grab it.

Run back to the left to the safe zone. Use your boomerang to break the yellow pot that we passed up just a moment ago. This will give you an extra 30 seconds and should fill your hourglass back up to 25:00. Once the coast is clear, dash back to the staircase at the top-right corner. Lift the round crystal and walk down the steps.

You’ll start off in a safe zone but there is a lower safe zone just below, as well as a yellow pot nearby. Toss the round crystal down below to the lower ledge and then lift up the yellow pot. Don’t toss it, but jump down to the lower platform. There is a nearby red pot on the right. Walk down and toss the yellow pot into the red pot. Walk into the safe zone puddle and get the 30 seconds of time.

From the safe zone, pull out a bombchu and trace it down, left, up through the small hole, and right to hit the switch. This will open the door leading to a staircase just to your left. Grab the round crystal you dropped in the safe zone and run on over your left. Make your way down the steps with just under 25:00 in your hourglass.

There are four wizzrobes in this room, as well as the single phantom that patrols the room. The phantom is also carrying the square crystal. You can’t allow a wizzrobe to hurt you as it will send you back to the beginning of the room and will also take away precious time from your hourglass. However, defeating them is essential since they will leave you with 30 seconds in the hourglass.

Start the room by carrying the round crystal to the large safe zone at the top of the screen. There are several ways you can go about killing the phantom in the room. The best way is to use a bomb to blowup the blocks near the safe zone in the center of the room. From there, use the hammer or just wait for the Phantom to walk by and strike him in the back. He will drop the square crystal. At this point, some time has been lost from your Hourglass and the Wizzrobes might have drawn near. I recommend defeated at least two of the Wizzrobes to get back to 25-minutes.

Carry the square crystal to the top-left corner of the room. Place it on the pedestal and it will lower the spikes to your right. Before opening the treasure head down the steps to get back to the previous floor. Use the hammer to trigger the phantom to come closer and when his back is turned eliminate him with a sword slash. Step on the switch that is nearby to create a geyser in an area just below.

Then quickly climb the steps and jump off the ledge to the left. Break the yellow pot at the top-left corner of the room to gain 30 seconds of time. Quickly run over to the geyser and use it to float up to the higher platform. Walk northward on the platform and before jumping off to get back to the door, use the boomerang to break a second yellow pot that is just to the south for 30 more seconds. Then jump north of the spikes and head back down the stairs to the ninth floor.

Now open the treasure chest to get the triangular crystal and carry it over to the safe zone. Then run back and bring over the square crystal. At this point, it is wise to trigger the wizzrobes to come close to you. If you face the opposite direction as them, they will move towards you. Defeat as many as you need and take the sand they drop until you are back up to the 25-minute mark. Then quickly run back to the safe zone.

Place the crystals in the correct order as you did before, square, circle, then triangle. The door will open up so head through it. The elevator will move upward. There is a yellow pot in this room but you should be close to the full sand and time is stopped in this room. Lift the pot and carry it down to the floor below.

Walk to the right and toss the yellow pot next to the wooden peg. Grab the time and then jump onto the peg. Use the grappling hook to get over to the next peg on the right. Then jump on that one and hook over to the peg that is in the safe zone. Wait until the phantom is walking northward and then push the block off the ledge and into the phantom.

Run south past the spikes all the way to the bottom of the room. Use the boomerang to break the yellow pot at the bottom right corner. Once you release the boomerang, begin running left towards the safe zone. Don’t worry as the boomerang and sand will trail behind you. From the safe zone wait until the phantom patrolling the left side comes all the way to the bottom and then turns around. Fire an arrow into his back and he will drop a small key. Use the boomerang to retrieve the key.

Equip the grappling hook and jump on the wooden peg. Hook over to the opened large treasure chest that you presumably got during your first trip through the temple. Jump off on the right side by the door and use the small key. Walk down to the floor below.

Ocean King Floor B11

Immediately when you enter this floor, sprint to the left and defeat the gold phantom. There is a yellow pot on the floor that is right in the path of the Phantom and if you don’t defeat the Phantom in time, he will break it. Toss your boomerang at the pot while sprinting back to the right and the sand will trail behind you.

There are two additional golden pots at the top of the room but it is all but useless to try and get them as Link will lose time in doing so. Just walk down the steps on the right side of the room to get down to the 12th basement.

Ocean King Floor B12

Ending Time in the Hourglass: 25:00

Within the large safe zone, equip the hammer. Once the golden phantom makes a turn and starts heading to the left, smash the peg and slingshot yourself over the platform. Slash the phantom and it will drop the force gem but don’t pick it up just yet.

Run up and to the right and you’ll see just on the other side of the spikes is a switch. Use the hammer to smash it and lower the spikes. Sprint over to the chest at the north side of the room and open it to get a force gem. A red phantom will appear nearby. Drop the force gem and trigger the phantom closer by smashing the ground with the hammer. Defeat the phantom without leaving the safe zone and then pick up the force gem. Run over to the large safe zone and dump it into one of the triangles. This will trigger a Wizzrobe to appear at the bottom left of the room.

Now run up to the safe zone at the top-left of the room and open a second chest for another force gem. Once again a phantom appears. Drop the gem and trigger him over with the hammer. Defeat him just as before and then pick up the force gem. Move on over to the large safe zone and drop the second force gem into one of the triangles.

A second Wizzrobe will appear in the room. The one on the left should be close by the safe zone. Take a step out of the safe zone and defeat the Wizzrobe for 30 seconds of time. This should bring your current time total at roughly 24:50 or so. Walk to the center of the room and grab the force gem. Bring it over to the large safe zone while other wizzrobe should be trailing behind. Place the third force gem and the door will open. Step back out of the safe zone and try to defeat the Wizzrobe as close to the safe zone as possible. Grab the time it leaves behind and head down the stairs at the top of the room to get to the 13th floor.

Ocean King Floor B13

Starting Time in the Hourglass: 25:00

Ending Time in the Hourglass: 25:00

The final timed room of the Temple of the Ocean King and you must have at least 24:45 minutes in your hourglass in order to end with a perfect 25-minutes. Run to the top-right of the room and grab the red pot. Walk to the left and jump down where there is a gap. The phantoms will notice you, so quickly toss the pot in the direction of the phantoms and run into the safe zone puddle. From here, use the hammer to trigger the three blue phantoms and defeat them without leaving the safe zone puddle. Next, defeat the three red phantoms that appear and then the three gold phantoms that appear, again without ever leaving the safe zone.

You can pull out your shovel and dig up the soft soil spot to create a geyser. Then quickly run over to the top-left of the room and grab the yellow pot. Run on over to the final door of the temple and toss the yellow pot so it breaks just in front of the door. Be sure not to take the pot through the door or your time will not count. Grab the time and then immediately run through the door to finish the Temple with a full 25:00 of time in the Phantom Hourglass.
