  • Yep, they have four different official languages:

    - Castellano - what people usually call spanish.
    - Gallego - envolved from "galego-português", that branched into galego and portuguese, so it makes sense that they are very similar.
    - Catalán - If you lear spanish, go to Barcelona and don't understand a thing, don't be surprised: that's the main language spoken there.
    - Vasco - Okay, that's the most misterious one: it has no resamblance with any languages in the world and no one knows where it came from.
Some people think ETs brought it to earth.

There are other languages too, but they're not official.
Really? And how did you realise that?

Yeah, most people think it sounds like spanish. Well, in portuguese and spanish-speaking people opinion, it sounds really differeent! The accent is totally different!
But they are close languages. Most words are similar, and if spanish-speaking people talk really slowly (really, do they have time to breathe when they talk that fast???), we can even understand them!

But even more to spanish, I heard portuguese is really similar to galego, one of the four languages spoken in Spain.
No, spanish is not spoken in any part of Brazil, but it's common to people to think it's the dominant language :D.

And, actually, not many words are related to english. Portuguese is a latin language, and what happens is that words from the english that came from latin may be similar to its portuguese counterpart. Portuguese is more like spanish, since both are latin languages.
But, at least in my opinion, they sound really different, the accent is totally different.

Well, buy watch the video anyway :P: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-sxYS1dYMQ
You can skip the begining, since there's nou much talking and go to the interview.
Yeah, I wish that besides giving value them, I liked to study languages too -_-"

And I know like you feel when people murder the language. Besides people who don't care for the language, recently grammar rules were changed to unify the grammar of every portuguese-speaking countries. Even being official, I fell a pain deep inside when, for example, people write "ideia" (which means idea in english, convenient, no? ;)) instead of idéia, like was written before ><

Really? Here people usually don't like math because it's too hard, well, not in high school, since when we got to know physycs math becomes our smallest problem :P
Well, but now that I'm thinking, one of the most popular university course might be engeneering. I think that the most popular ones besides that one are medicine (no, that one I'm sure is the most) and law.

And about english being easy, well, at least it have always been to me, but things might change, since I've just stepped in advanced, but it's not hard yet.

If you want, I can look for a video of someone speaking portuguese and send for you for you to know how it sounds, since it looks like you're into leanguage arts.
Yeah! I love sharing my knowlege too! An english teacher of mine have already told me that she think that I could be a good teacher, but I think I won't because of what I have already said before.

Yeah! People should value more their language, because, well, no language, no society. But, even loving my language, learning it is most times a pain.
I don't have problem with english, in my opinion it is easy, but Portuguese (language spoken here in Brazil), oh my goosh. You would be surprised if you knew how much grammar portuguese have!!! I think I'll finish high school without dominating even half of it. Actually, languages really aren't my thing. I like to know them, but I don't like to study them :P. But I try to learn them because I recognise how important they are. I would like to learn, besides english and spanish italian, japanese (I studied it for 6 months, but them they closed the class) and Latin.

Well, usually, here we separte subjects in exact science (in portuguese "exatas") and humanities ("humanas"). Exact sciences are basicly maths, chemestry, physics and biology (in most people opinion the black sheep from the family :P) and humanities, well, basicaly all the rest of them :P I just had a test of exact sciences today.
Writer? That's must be an incredible profession. But yeah, it's kind of hard, specially when you're depending from inspiration, that you never know when will come, to earn money.
So it's nice to have another proffesion besides it. Being a teacher is a truly remarkable profession, but it wouldn't be my choice, since I think I wouldn't have patience to deal with the students. Or maybe not, it's just a supposition. If I were a high school teacher I think that dealing with students wouldn't be such a big problem.

Well, for what I want to do in my life... I truly have no idea! I don't even know if I want to do humanities or exact sciences!
I think that I will probably choose an exact science, but I'm realy not sure yet.

I know how you fell, I really love my language too! It's really amazing how attached you can be to your native language.
