King Dodongo begins the battle with a fire attack. These fire attacks are the opportunities Link is waiting for. Before it exhales flame, it inhales, allowing Link to feed him a Bomb by throwing it in his open mouth. King Dodongo is stunned momentarily, providing Link with the opportunity to attack him with a Jump Attack with a Deku Stick or the Kokiri Sword, the Deku Stick technique dealing much more damage.OoT It then curls up, preparing to roll around. In order to avoid King Dodongo's rolling attack, Link can stand on the slope inside the ring near the lava or tuck into a crouch in the corners of the arena behind the Bomb Flowers. Whenever King Dodongo rolls, it always goes halfway around the ring, bouncing off of one corner and stopping at the next. Once it rolls past, Link can follow close behind him. After, it can repeat the process by throwing another Bomb. In the instance that Link runs out of Bombs, Bomb Flowers are available in every corner of the arena. Unlike many other bosses in Ocarina of Time, there is no "second-phase" to this battle. Once Link strikes the final blow, King Dodongo roars before rolling into the lava in the middle of the room. A Heart Container appears by his head along with a portal that is waiting to send Link to the outside Dodongo's Cavern. At this point, the lava has hardened and cooled to rock, so Link can walk on it.
While King Dodongo has an impressive stature, none of the attacks are very strong. Dodongo's primary attack comes when he breaths fire out at Link. These fire attacks are the opportunities Link is waiting for, as it requires Dodongo to first inhale some air, allowing Link to feed him a Bomb by throwing it in his open mouth. Doing so causes King Dodongo to be stunned momentarily, providing Link with the opportunity to attack him with a Jump Attack using a Deku Stick or with the Kokiri Sword. The Deku Stick technique deals much more damage than the Kokiri Sword.OoT

Once Link has stepped into the portal, he is taken to the spot where the giant boulder stood at the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern. Darunia drops from the sky right in front of Link and congratulates him on a job well done, as well as making them Sworn Brothers, a title which shows Darunia's thanks to Link for helping his people. And to symbolize their new brotherhood, Darunia gives Link the second Spiritual Stone, the Goron's Ruby.
