Early in the game the Gorons are in a hunger crisis because Dogongos have invaded the ancient Dodongo's Cavern. After they are saved by Link, their leader, Darunia, gives him the Spiritual Stone of Fire. Seven years later, Ganondorf enslaves the Gorons and brings them to the Fire Temple to be sacrificed to the ancient dragon, Volvagia. Darunia goes to save his people like his ancestors and gets defeated by the dragon. After Link saves the Gorons, beats Volvagia, and stops Death Mountain from erupting, it is revealed that Darunia is the Sage of Fire.

As a child, Link travels to Goron City in order to collect the Spiritual Stone of Fire a.k.a Gorons' Ruby. Ganondorf demanded the Gorons' Ruby but didn't get it, So he  blocked the pathway to Dodongo's Cavern (which was the main food supply for the Gorons) with a huge boulder. But Link defeated the mosnters inside the cavern and blew up teh boulder and as a reward he got the Ruby and the Title "Hero of the Gorons".
