I had a feeling that Commander Cham was going to turn out to be the bad guy. I thought perhaps it was a bad idea for them to even stay at the second base and let him hold that meeting... they should have gone back to their own base as soon as they found out, without informing Cham. Now it looks like they're screwed.

He's going to stop them from seeking Vanessa, and he's putting Baas and Sheina back into training. If his plan works out... this story could get very long and boring. We'll have to read about Baas training and brooding for 7 years.

Excellent chapter, RP. I'm beginning to dislike Cham a lot now, which is probably what you intended. I sorta understand the Vanessa thing, but I swear Cham is being plain unreasonable with the whole Baas and Sheina thing. Something tells me that something is up... hmm...

"WHY BAAS!? WHY CAN’T YOU BE CIVILIZED!?"

My lol moment of the chapter. Ahhh, man, even in the most serious of situations, Baas is always a trouble maker.

Anyways, time for my little cliffhanger that has become a tradition.

Can Cham be convinced to take some other course of action concerning Vanessa? Will Sheina and Baas be able to continue their missions, or will they be stuck at one of the bases for the next seven years? What exactly is Atsuma plotting? And most importantly, will Baas ever act civilized in a serious situation? Find out next time on Wig. Or. LOG!!

Master Kokiri you crack me up with the way you preview the next chapter

Normally you would think Cham is not a nice person but I have the idea he might turn out a bit different than we think he is. Hmmm, I won't be surprised if Atsuma and the others will leave in silence. Maybe that's what Diablo meant with getting into trouble?
Anyway....I want to read more of your stuff RP!

Chapter 32 : Strength in Numbers

Atsuma took the ingredients in his hand. He was trying to distinguish exactly what he would need and what was just there.

"Let’s see. When Sheina cooks she uses this all the time... I wonder if I can make... no. If I try I’ll just mess up and waste ingredients."

Atsuma had gotten into the infantry of one of the eating places. He had brought the bag Baas had been carrying with him. Now he was packing it with ingredients off the shelf.

He stared at all the objects before him.
"You know what, I just take everything."

Atsuma then shoved all the items into the bag, took a quick glance at everything inside and hurried out of the room.

He walked down the mountain trail in the dead of the night. As he went, he spoke quietly.

"See, this is why I let Panda do all the packing. Course, I can’t do that now. Let’s make sure I got everything. Bag full of junk. Check. Sword at my waist. Check. Rope that I may need. Check. Map. Check Hmm. I guess that’s everything."

From then on Atsuma remained quiet until he reached the end of where the buildings stopped on the mountain trail at ground level. The wide space gave him plenty of room. He turned and looked up at the watch guard high up. The watch guard looked down on him. He twitched as though ready to shoot his bow. Atsuma quickly held up his left arm to show his orange band. The guard lowered his bow and continued to walk along the high mountain trail. Atsuma blew air out of his mouth to show his relief. He turned back to look at the scene that was the territory of Orange.

"This will probably be the last time I see mountains like these."
He let out a sigh. "Well, goodbye guys. It was fun while it lasted."

"Are you going somewhere?"

Atsuma quickly turned in fear of the voice he heard. He looked around trying to see who said it. Then he spotted him. It was hard to do so in the dark, but Diablo was leaning against a rocky wall with his arms crossed.

"Oh great." Atsuma remarked. "You’re the last person I need to see."

Diablo stood up straight and approached Atsuma.
"From what it looks like you’re doing, I think you could use a good talking to."

"Yeah you caught me." Atsuma said not really caring. "I’m going to save Vee by myself. Feel free to tell everybody in the base. Since your band clearly shows you’re an Orange member, I‘m sure they won‘t kill you on sight."

Atsuma continued forward on his quest. He then stopped and turned back to Diablo.
"How’d you get in this territory anyway?"

"Black is very hard to see at night. Atsuma, even someone as hardheaded as you can see what an idiot move this is. You’re going to rescue someone under complete disobedience. You have no team, barely enough equipment, and you’ll be breaking the rules of Wig."

Atsuma raised his eyebrow. "You know that’s the longest phrase you’ve said to me?"

"Get serious here."

"What do you care anyway? All you want is for me to stay alive so I can go on that mission of yours."

"You’re so blinded by selfishness that it's all you can see in other. Do you remember the three choices? If you choose choice number one, I’ll leave you alone, forever. You’ll never see me again. The choice of happiness is probably the smartest move, actually. But this choice isn’t the way to do things."

"That option isn’t an option at all. I’m not leaving Vee to die."

"I told you, she’s as good as dead!"

"And I told you I can’t accept that!"
Atsuma realized his voice had gotten a little loud. He looked around to make sure they were still the only two in sight. He then continued talking.

"Look, you don’t know what I’ve been through. I’m not letting another person down."

"You mean how you shot and killed your own wife?"

Atsuma began to grow angry.

"How do you know about..."

"I’m a good guesser. Listen. Sometimes life is harsh. I of all people know that most of all. But you can’t live in the past. You need to look at the big picture for once. I can show you that big picture, if you would let me. But for reasons of my own, I can’t do it unless I know you’re dedicated. And if you can’t accept that, then don’t go walking into this blindly. Go back to your bed and forget about this. I’m telling you, it’s not what you want to do. You will wish you were dead, and then your wish will be granted."

"Are you done? I’ve heard this speech before."

Diablo sighed.
"Fine. Go. Do what you want. Throw you’re life away. But at least leave the others out of your vendetta. Especially Baas. None of them deserve what lies at the end of this road."

Atsuma’s curiosity had been peaked.
"What is so special about Baas that you keep hounding us."

"If you come with me, I’ll tell you."

"Nice try. Not gonna happen."

Atsuma turned to continue his journey.
"Don’t worry about the others. I planned to leave them out of this from the beginning. If I’m going to go through with this, I have no right to ask the others to risk themselves too. Especially Baas."

Suddenly, a voice came shouting from a distance.
"There he is Panda!"

Atsuma and Diablo looked back toward the Orange territory. Running toward them was Koroko and Pandora. Pandora had a Sturkfur bow and a quiver full of arrows on her back. Koroko had a long sword and was screaming from anxiety.

"See I told you to hurry up! He’s already ready to go!"

"Koroko be quiet. Do you want to wake the whole base? Look, you’ve upset the lookout."

Atsuma saw Koroko stop running and look up to his right. He could not see what he was looking at.

"Hey! You mad at me for yelling?! Bet you won’t do nothing about it..."

Suddenly an arrow came and landed near Koroko’s feet. Koroko jumped back from the sight of it.

"HEY! That almost hit me!"

He then picked up the arrow and began running again.
"Just for that, I’m taking it with me!"

Another arrow shot down at Koroko. This time it was an impact arrow. It missed and Koroko picked it up as he ran.

"Keep shooting! I’m starting a collection!"

Soon he was out of sight from the person he was talking to. With a smile on his face, he got closer to Atsuma. The smile then changed to an upset face. He saw Diablo and reached for his sword. He quickly took it out, while still holding onto the arrows, and began swinging wildly at the masked figure. Diablo, without difficulty, dodged every move with grace. Finally, to stop the fight, Atsuma took his sword from his side and swung toward the two.

*Cling*

Atsuma sword was now clashed with Koroko’s.

Koroko did not take his eyes off of Diablo.
"Atsuma, what are you doing? Why are you protecting this creep?"

"I’m not really protecting him, it’s more like stopping you. If you keep going like this, you’ll wake the whole base up."

Pandora had now made her way over to the group.
"That’s what I told him. But will he listen to me? No."

Atsuma put his sword back to his side.
"What are you two doing out here anyway?"

Koroko also put his sword back on his side.
"Well, duh, isn’t that obvious, we’re going with you to help save Vee."

Atsuma was stunned.

"How... how did you even know that I was leaving?"

Pandora answered this time. "Oh come on Atsuma, it doesn’t take a genius to figure you out. When someone tells you ‘no,’ it’s pretty safe to say you’re going to do the opposite."

Atsuma scratched his head at that one. He felt a little silly for being so predictable.

"But... guys... you can’t come with me on this one."

"And why exactly not?" Pandora asked. "Is Vee not our friend too? Were we not all apart of team Vanessa?"

"Well… yeah.. But according to Diablo, this is going to get extremely dangerous. You could lose your lives."

"Hmm..." Koroko said sarcastically. "Going out to risk our lives. Gee, as warriors who have spent our whole lives fighting in a war, we’ve NEVER done anything like that before. He may have a point Panda."

Atsuma did not want to have this argument.
"Come on guys, don’t make me order you to stay here."

"Well I guess you could do that." Koroko said with a big smile on his face. "After all, as a Leader, you can tell us what to do and the rules of Wig say we‘re inclined to follow your orders. But I wonder how Cham would feel if I went and told him right now about your 'order.' And if I gave him a little more details about what exactly you’re doing. Of course, you wouldn‘t mind that would you Ats? I mean after all, since you‘re clearly leaving in the dead of night and you‘re trying to be quiet, that must mean you don‘t care about who finds out..."

"What Koroko is trying to say," Pandora interrupted, annoyed by his joke, "is that we know how you feel. As her friends too, we have every right to want to save Vanessa just as you do. And as your friend, we have every right not to let you go alone."

Atsuma sighed. He then put a smile on his face.
"You guys suck." He said playfully. "But then again, so do I. I guess I don’t really have a choice anyway."

Atsuma’s infamous smirk appeared on his face.
"Alright guys, let’s go save Vee."

Pandora clapped rapidly and smiled. Koroko took his fist and pull it back. A small "yes" came from his mouth.

Atsuma was content. In reality, he couldn’t think of anything he’d like better than to be with his team on this mission. His team? That reminded him of something.

"Hey," he said, "you didn’t tell Baas or Sheina about this did you?"

"No." Koroko answered, "Why? Should we have?"

"No. Not at all. That’s good. Cham may be a pain for forcing those two to stay behind, but I’d prefer them here then with us on this mission. They’re still young. They don’t have to risk themselves like this."

Pandora shook her head and smiled.

"You really don’t know how much you and Baas are alike do you?"

Atsuma was confused by that statement. Pandora walked toward Koroko and snatch the impact arrow from his hand.

"What did I tell you about touching arrows? You can’t appreciate something like this."

Koroko turned his nose and blew out some air.
"Why was Vee the archer who got kidnapped?"

Pandora ignored the comment. She took the arrow and her bow and prepared to shoot. She pointed the bow directly up. She checked her aim, and then... she let go. Everyone watched as the arrow soared up into the air. It didn’t go straight up. It went in a nice neat angle. Then, after it went some ways high, it began to fall. Lower and lower it came. Finally, the arrow landed behind a boulder not too far off from where the group was standing.

"OW!" Came a voice from behind the boulder. Then a body fell out from behind it. It was Baas holding his head tightly. A short sword and shield was on his back.

"Sheina! What in the Wig was that?"

Sheina came from behind the boulder with the impact arrow. The twin swords Jaloer had gave her were on her hip.
"It looks like we’ve been found out Baas."

Baas, still holding his head, tried to get up.
"For the record, I blame you." Baas then turned toward the group of adults.
"Hey guys, it’s Sheina’s fault."

"Baas," Atsuma asked, "were you following me?"

Baas and Sheina made their way over to the group. Baas moved extremely slow because he could still only lift his feet two inches in the air.

"No, I wasn’t following you." He answered as he got closer. "I just saw where you were going and decided to make that my destination as well."

Baas finally made his way over to the group.
"By the way, it took me all my effort to keep up with you. Man, these shoes really are the hardest part of war. Plus Sheina wouldn’t wait up for me and I almost..."

"Baas," Atsuma interrupted, "You’re a moron if you think you’re coming with me."

"You always think it’s about you don’t you?" Baas said with a smile. "Sheina and I are going to save miss Vanessa by ourselves. You’re welcome to come along if you’d like."

"I’m serious Baas. This isn’t the time to be joking around. Sheina, you agreed to this too?"

Sheina looked around shyly. Before she had realized it, the spotlight was suddenly on her.

"Well, Baas convinced me that there is a difference in following the rules, and doing what you know is right. And though I don‘t like sneaking out to do it, I feel we should at least try and help miss Vanessa, rather then just give up on her."

"While that’s very noble of you two," Atsuma said smiling fake like, "I’m not letting you come with me."

"That’s fine." Baas said, "Since we’re going by ourselves anyway, it doesn’t matter."

"Kid, you’re staying here. That’s an order."

"Oh ha ha ha. Nice try mister. That might work on your two lackeys over there, but Sheina and I are Leaders just like you. You can’t tell us what to do."

"Vanessa left me in charge of you Baas. Therefore, what I say goes."

"And that Cham guy relieved us of you Atsuma, therefore what you say can be ignored by me."

"He also told you to stay in the base. So be good little kids and obey."

"You really are hard on hearing aren’t you? He said we could choose to stay here in the base, OR be escorted to the other base. Sheina and I have decided to choose the latter and have you guys escort us to the first base. We’ll simply take the scenic route and rescue Vee on the way. So can we stop all this chatter and get going already?"

"Baas I don’t think you’re getting it, I’m not letting you come with us."

"And I don’t think YOU’RE getting it. There’s no way you can stop us."

"You wanna bet?"

"What are you gonna do? Fight me?"

"If I have to."

The two had gradually gotten more aggressive as they were arguing. They had reached a point now where their muscles were ready for a fight. They both stared at each other in anger, waiting to see if the other would actually attack.

Suddenly Pandora grabbed Atsuma by the ear.
"OW! OW! Panda what did I do? Ow! Let go!"

Baas began to giggle. That is, until Sheina did the same thing to him.
"OW! Sheina let go! Come on! You know I can’t stand that!"

The group suddenly went off in two conversations, though the four talked as though it were still one.
"Panda, what’s going on? Whatever it is, could you please let go? You haven’t grabbed my ear since we were kids!"

"That’s because you haven’t acted so childish in a long time."

"Sheina, please stop! I don’t want a pink ear."

"Then stop trying to puff out your chess and try to analyze the situation."

"Honestly Atsuma, you make an intense analysis in a battle field, but you can’t see what’s right in front of you."

"If you’d stop joking around so much, Baas you’d be able to see the obvious"

"What’s in front of me?"

"The obvious?"

Both Sheina and Pandora sighed. Then, at the same time they said with much gusto...
"He’s just like you."

Sheina and Pandora heard each other. They let go of Baas and Atsuma’s ears and then began to calm down and explain themselves.

"Baas wants to save Vee too Atsuma. Just like you, he isn’t going to let anything stop him. He isn’t concerned about his own self since his friend is in danger."

"And Atsuma is like you Baas. He can’t stand to see the sight of his friend in trouble. That’s why he doesn’t want you blazing into danger."

Atsuma and Baas thought about those statements. It made them feel… a little awkward. But, being who he was, Baas worked past his awkwardness and spoke up.

"Even still, I’m going to help miss Vanessa out. I’m the only one who saw the grey band in the first place. I may not know 100 percent what they look like, but I’m the best person to try and identify them."

"Now was it so hard to say something like that Baas?" Sheina asked.

"Yes it was." Baas said jokingly. "In fact I think I broke my rib cage. But enough about me Sheina, what about you?"

Sheina was confused by the question.
"What?"

"What have you got to contribute to this little hunt for our beloved Commander? Hmm? Looks like we may have to leave you behind."

"We’ll need her to baby-sit."
Atsuma said smirking.
"There’s no way we’re letting Baas come, without having someone there to keep an eye on him."

There was a glimmer in Sheina’s eye. Atsuma had accepted that they would be traveling with him. Baas squinted his eyes.

"Babysit? I don’t need a babysitter."

The group laughed at Baas’ comment. The atmosphere had lifted. They were themselves again.

"Well now guys." Atsuma said taking the lead. "Let’s go get our Commander. We need to leave before anyone catches us and reports us to Cham. Team Atsuma, move out!"

The team began to head down the trail that lead outside of the mountains, but before they could take four steps, Diablo jumped in front of them.

"Hold on. I can‘t allow this."

Atsuma face palmed himself and began to speak sarcastically
"Oh right. I completely forgot. You’re totally dedicated to making sure I didn’t take Baas along with me."

Diablo did not laugh. He was dead serious. "Listen to me, all of you..."

"Do we really have to?" Baas asked jokingly. "You never say anything I like hearing."

"Whether you like it or not Baas, you need to listen. One person throwing his life away is hard to watch as it is. But there’s no way I can allow all of you to leave."

"Allow us?" Koroko asked. "How exactly do you plan on stopping us. I doubt even with this so called amazing speed and reflexes that you could stop all of us."

"Always using all your muscles except the one on your skull Koroko."

Koroko spoke quietly to Atsuma. "Ats I really think this guy is insulting my intelligence."

"This is suicide." Diablo continued. "I’m trying to let you make your own decision, but you keep choosing the wrong one. You’re going to completely disobey the rank the Discretes have informed you of. This is a major act against the rules of Wig. If your country finds out, you’ll all be black banded, if you’re lucky. I don’t even want to think of what will happen if the Discretes themselves find out."

"Why do you think we’re leaving in the middle of the night? Because it’s cooler out?" Atsuma asked. "Don’t worry, it’ll be fine."

"Is that what you said to Arttior Atsuma? Is that what you said to Sean?"

Upon hearing the name, Atsuma Pandora and Koroko all had a reaction. Sheina and Baas, however, were left clueless.

"You listen to me." Atsuma said grinding his teeth. "You don’t get to speak their names."

In the midst, Baas tried to get out a question, that seemed to be ignored.

"Um, excuse me, who is..."

"Atsuma." Koroko interrupted. "What does he mean by that? He’s not talking about our sean is he? Did something happen to him?"

Atsuma held in his breath. That was something he didn’t want to talk about. Meanwhile, Baas was still trying to get out his question.

"Uh, can someone tell me..."

"Atsuma, Sean’s okay right? I mean, you probably don’t know now, but the last time you checked he was fine right?"

Atsuma’s heart began to beat. From both adrenaline and pressure. Baas still had not gotten his question answered.

"Who in the Wig is Sean!?"

"NOT NOW GUYS!!!"

Atsuma said in anger. His rage made all his muscles tense. He looked at Diablo with the deadliest stare he could.

"You have no right to bring that up! How do you know about that anyway!?"

"I’m only allowing you to see the full extent. The last time you broke a major rule of Wig, the Discretes made you pay in the worst possible way. Do you think this will turn out any better."

Atsuma’s eyes were filling with tears. He was both furious and upset at the same time.

"We aren’t leaving Vee."

"I told you to give up on her."

"And I told you I’m not doing that."

"Look at you. You’re so distraught about what happened to your wife that..."

"This isn’t only about Arty. We owe this to Vee."

"One life is not worth five. I don’t care what she’s done, she’s just a human being."

"You only say that because you haven’t known her. Vee has watched over me ever since I first came to Orange. She’s watched over all of us. Just the other, day she helped Baas out with a strategy I told him about. She’s always watching over us."

Diablo though about what Atsuma had said. "Helped Baas out? Are you talking about when an arrow killed the guy who was fighting Baas?"

Atsuma was shocked. He then became suspicious.
"How do you know about that?"

"I was there remember. The only thing is, I know more than you guys do. Your precious Commander didn’t kill that guy. It was my one of my people. We saw that Baas was in trouble. He no use to us dead. I wish I had made the shot though. I wouldn‘t have..."

"How did you get that arrow?"

"What?"

"That was an orange style arrow. I can recognize one anywhere. How did your teammate get that arrow."

"Isn’t that obvious? She used your Commander’s bow. Though your Commander tried to put up a fight, she dropped both her bow and arrows when she was kidnapped. We simply made use of them..."

"You were there, weren’t you?" Atsuma suddenly got quiet with his questions. "You talk as though you were there when Vee was captured."

Diablo could not see the point of these questions.

"Yes I was there Atsuma. Why do you keep asking..."

"YOU WERE THERE AND YOU DID NOTHING TO STOP THEM!?!"

Now Diablo could see.

Pandora looked back. She saw some lights appearing in the base. People were beginning to wake up.

"Atsuma," she warned, "You have to keep your voice down."

"Why didn’t you help her?" Atsuma asked ignoring Pandora.

"Why would I? There were too many of them to fight, but even if there wasn’t, I can’t expose myself."

"You could have ended all of this!"

"I would have died. And showing myself to just anyone, especially those who captured Vanessa, is stupidly dangerous."

"You even knew who kidnapped her, and yet you didn’t tell Baas and me when we were in the woods. We could’ve gotten to her then."

"You are not thinking. I need you and Baas alive. If there was some way I could do that and save your Commander, I would. But I‘m not going to commit suicide for her."

"You’re just a coward. Or maybe not. Maybe your just loyal to your country and you don’t care. But there’s no way I can believe you were looking out for us when you sat back and watched Vee get kidnapped. Now then..."

Atsuma took the bag off his back and threw it on the ground, he then took his sword from his waste.

"You’re going to tell us who took Vee."

"No I'm not. I don't want you trying to rescue her. What makes you think I'll help you do it?"

"Tell me now!"

"Make me."

Atsuma couldn’t take it any longer. He lunged forward in an attempt to attack Diablo. But, just as easily as he had Koroko, Diablo dodged all the blows. Pandora looked back. Some people had come out now, if they didn’t hurry up and leave, the group would be caught.

The fight between the two made Diablo and Atsma move around the group. When Atsuma stopped swinging to rest, Diablo was now the closest to the inner part of the territory.

"Do you see now?" Diablo said maniacally. "I’m way out of your league. I haven't even used any of my weapons yet. There’s no way you can beat me alone."

"Maybe not," Atsuma said breathing hard. A smirk then appeared on his face. "But I’m not alone." He then took a deep breath and yelled as loud as he could.

"INTRUDEEER!!!"

"What?" Diablo asked outloud.

Suddenly, arrows were flying down at Diablo. They were hard to see in the dark and thus hard to dodge. That didn’t stop Diablo from trying though. With quick feet, he moved around to have the arrows just missing him.

"Must move quickly." He thought to himself. "Analyze. They can’t see me as well as they’d like. If I move toward the closest exit, it'll be an easy escape. That means I need to go down the trai..."

He began to move forward toward the trail. However, Atsuma group had had a similar idea. They were now much farther down the path. Trailing the group, with heavy shoes was Baas. He was much farther behind than the others. The sight of him made Diablo stop.

"No. If I leave through that way, I could endanger the boy. I can’t let that happen."
Diablo’s thoughts were suddenly interrupted by his scream.

"AGH!"
An arrow had pierced his left shoulder. He grasped it in pain.

"Of course, that doesn’t mean I can stop moving either." He continued thinking. "These guys can do serious damage when they have numbers. I might not come back from this one, and even if I do, if any of them get a good description of me, it could endanger future missions for me. You have to decide now D. You can go deeper into the territory with certain death on your shoulders. Or you can put the kid in danger and save yourself."

Diablo grasped his arm. Blood was beginning to spill out of it. Even with his skills, he couldn't go through injured like this. He then looked up at Baas again. Baas turned around as though on cue. There was sympathy in his eyes. As though he wanted to go back and help Diablo. Baas didn’t know it, but he was staring Diablo directly in the eyes and Diablo could see everything. Then, Baas moved his lips to word out a phrase toward Diablo.

"Sorry."

Diablo was shock to see that phrase. Then, let out a small chuckle.
"Heh. That’s no choice at all."

He then took the arrow, and with a loud shout, snapped the part that was sticking out from the part that was inside his arm.

Diablo could now focus. The archers had taken a break to get closer to him, but they would no longer need one. With a throbbing shoulder, Diablo turned to face the inside of the base. People, all wearing Orange bands carrying all sorts of weapons were climbing down the trail of the mountain.

Diablo chuckled again.

"Well well. It looks like word has spread."

He then shouted so all on the mountain could hear him.
"HELLO ORANGE COUNTRY! YOU FREAKING LOSERS! WHO AMONG YOU THINKS THEY CAN KILL ME!?!"
His voice echoed through the mountains. Whoever could see him was now looking at him. Whoever couldn’t, was now looking for him.
"Yes, that’s right, all eyes, arrows and sword pointed at me."

Baas was amazed. Diablo was charging into the pits of Orange.

"Kid, come on!"

Baas suddenly felt a tug on his arm. Atsuma was pulling him forward.

"Baas, we need to leave now! Before we’re noticed."

"Oh… right." Baas said hurriedly. He began to trudge with Atsuma as best as he could. As Atsuma pulled on his arm, Baas looked back toward Diablo. Before turning a corner, the last thing he saw was the masked figure running deeper into the territory.

Atsuma and Baas made there way through what seemed like a maze of the bottom mountain trail. At the end was Pandora, Sheina and Koroko waiting for them.

"Baas, what happened?" Sheina asked as they exited on to the field of grass.

"These shoes are stinkin heavy, that’s what happened."
Baas said out of breath. He sat down to rest his aching feet.

"Did anyone see you?" Koroko asked Atsuma.

"No." Atsuma said, just catching his breath. "Everyone was looking at Diablo. The guy put a lot of attention on himself."

"Yeah, we heard him scream." Koroko replied back. "Guys pretty bold to try and take on a whole base."

"Well the jerk was good for something." Atsuma said smirking, "That was a great distraction. In the confusion, no one will have noticed we left."

"Are you sure it was okay to do that to him?" Pandora asked. "I mean, he did say he was trying to help us?"

"You heard what he did to Vee." Atsuma insisted. "He was only looking out for his mission. He doesn’t even care if Baas and I live, he just wants us to help him out. If he can turn his back while Vee gets kidnapped, then I can certainly turned my back while Vee's people kill him."

Whilst the three eldest were talking amongst themselves. Sheina had just noticed that Baas wasn’t paying any attention.

"Baas, is something the matter?"

"I can’t figure it out." Baas said still thinking. "I’ve gone over it a million times in my head and I can’t figure it out. The most strategic thing to do would be to take this trail out of the territory. He was right next to his exit, and yet he chose to run deeper in. It makes no sense. Diablo knows how to fight well. He's amazing. He would have known this was the best option."

"Maybe he thought he could fight off everyone."

"I thought of that Sheina, but he’s not that good."

Sheina was a little shocked to hear that. Baas understood the misinterpretation and began to correct himself.

"I mean... he is good. VERY good. But I’ve seen his speed with my own eyes. He’s fast, yes, but not fast enough to handle the thousands of people in Orange. I’ve been able to physically hit him, so there was no point in going deeper into the base. Especially since he was wounded."

"I’m sure you’re just over thinking it Baas."

Baas ignored Sheina, or rather, he was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t hear her fully.

"The only thing I can figure is that he either wanted to make sure we got out without being noticed or that we weren‘t caught in the cross fire. But that doesn’t make any sense either because he didn’t want us to leave in the first place. Was he really that concerned about our lives that he would give his own?"

"I doubt that." Atsuma said snapping Baas out of his thoughts. "If the guy wanted us alive, it’s because he wanted us to go with him on his mission. That’s all there is to it."

Baas went back to thinking. "Well, I guess that could be true. But don’t you think it’s strange that..."

"The only thing I think is strange, kid, is why we’re still here. We need to get moving. Once they kill Diablo, they’ll send Leaders and Fars to make sure there aren’t anymore people lurking around."

Baas let out a sigh. His thoughts would have to wait. He gathered his strength and stood up to begin the journey.

"Hey Atsuma." Koroko said holding a bag. "I picked up that bag you dropped when you were fighting Diablo."

Koroko handed the bag to Atsuma.
"Thanks man." Atsuma then took the bag and tossed it at Baas. Baas reached out to grab it, but when he did, it pulled his arms toward the ground.

"Whoa!" Baas said, "This is heavier then it was when we first started."

"Yep." Atsuma said smirking. "Have fun carrying it."

"What?!" Baas whined. "You mean I STILL have to carry this heavy bag. You've got to be kidding me. Aren’t the shoes enough?"

Atsuma turned to Baas. "Can you beat Koroko in a fight?"

"Uh..." was all Baas had time to say. After that, Koroko grabbed him by the back of his shirt and lifted him in the air with one hand.

"Notice how I’m carrying you, the bag, and you’re shoes."

Baas let out a gulp and laughed nervously.
"I don’t think I can yet."

"Then you’re still carrier of heavy things on the team. Now stop whining and let’s go. It’s gonna be a while before reached the nearest grey territory. I figure we’ll start the search for Vee there."

Atsuma began to walk away from the mountain side. Koroko let Baas down and he and Pandora followed.

Sheina came next to Baas as he tried to put on the heavy bag.

"Well Baas, this is gonna be some mission."

"Ah don’t worry about it Sheina." Baas said with a smile. He was still trying to put the bag on but his sword and shield were getting in the way.
"Breaking the rules of Wig is the hardest part of war. Once this is over, everything else will be easy. There we go."

Baas had finally gotten the bag on. However, as soon as he did, his body could not atone for the new weight and his shoes. Baas lost balance and fell on his back.

"Ow."

Sheina giggled at the sight of seeing Baas on his back.

Baas was not amused, but could still make a joke about it.
"I take it back. This job of carrying the heavy stuff is still the hardest part of war. Hands down."

Well, RP, excellent chapter as usual.

"For the record, I blame you."

Koroko spoke quietly to Atsuma. "Ats I really think this guy is insulting my intelligence."

I swear, whenever Koroko says something, it's either funny, awesome, or both. He's just like Hinawa from Mother 3! :D Cliffhanger time.

What were Diablo's intentions behind charging staight into the Orange Base? Was it he that kidnapped Vanessa? Why does he seem so concerned about Baas and Atsuma's safety? How does he know so much about Atsuma? Who is this mysterious Sean character? Can they rescue Vanessa, or is their mission doomed to cost them their lives as Diablo says? What was Diablo's role in the capture of Vanessa? And most importantly, will Baas ever become the great pack mule he was destined to be? Find out next time on Wig. Or. LOG!!

Chapter 33 Great Ones

The sun was shining down upon the wide grassy field making it not too cool. The wind was blowing, making it not too hot. There were clouds in the sky, but there was no sign of rain. Dolg felt it would be another perfect day.

As he traveled with his group through the field, Dolg stood out the most among them. His outfit shined as he wore a top with multiple shades of gold that connected to make both a shirt and a pair of shorts. Even though he was supposed to be blonde, Dolg’s hair was a color blonde that made it seem like it matched his outfit. He wore everything gold. His outfit, his hair, even his band was gold. The only reason his thick boots were brown was because they were always getting dirty and an untidy uniform was unthinkable for a Gold Leader. Thus, he kept them that color to make it so the dirt wouldn’t stand out.

Dolg continued to walk triumphantly with a leadership smile on his face. Magatha and Zordo walked in a similar fashion behind him, only without the smile.
Magatha was tall and sleek. Her hair was also blonde, like Dolg, but hers was a lighter shade. Her outfit consisted of a white top with extended silver sleeves that seemed to emerge from inside. She wore silver pants that seemed to fit her perfectly. They weren’t too, tight but they never seemed to come away from her legs. Her slim boots, which covered her socks, were a darker shade of grey. She had often preferred them white, but she kept them that color for similar reason Dolg kept his bots brown.

Zordo clothes matched those of Magatha. He had a long, button down, baby blue shirt with long sleeves that were light blue. His pants were also a perfect fit that consisted of a shade of blue that was slightly darker than normal blue. His boots were navy blue. He too, wanted a lighter shade for shoes. On top of his head was perfectly coiffed brown hair that came down to his upper neck.
At each other’s sides, the three almost looked like siblings. Siblings that emerged from parents who were incredibly sophisticated and wealthy. Their outfits all seemed to shine as they walked. They all also carried long swords on their left hip with fancy sheaths that matched the color of their outfits. What differed though, was that Zordo was the only one without a bow and a quiver of arrows.

They were one of the greatest teams in all of the Gold territory.
The team was headed off to a mission. Following them was a horde of Gold fighters with varying weapons. They were necessary if the team wanted to accomplish their mission. All of the people were on high alert in case of an attack. One, however, was a little more jumpy than the rest…

He wore a plain orange shirt, orange shorts and some white sneakers. Though he seemed like nobody important, everyone in the group knew his name. Not because he was a famous fighter, but because he had constantly held up everyone by saying that he saw something. Since the trip had started merely hours ago, he had held up the group three times. Three times it was concluded that it was just his imagination. Three times he had embarrassed himself. He was hoping there wouldn’t be a fourth.

"AHH!!!" the young man cried out quickly. The rest of the group stopped and went on high alert. They all readied their weapons as though ready to attack. Zordo and Magatha quickly made their way to where the scream had come from. When he reached the man, Zordo quickly gathered what information he could.

"What did you see Souvern?" His voice was deep, quick and crisp.
The man pointed off into the distance.
"I-I saw something sh-shine over there in the d-distance." The man named Souvern was so nervous he was shaking.
Normally the two would have immediately went to check it out, but because this was the fourth time Souvern spoke out, they were a little hesitant.

"Are you sure Souvern?" Magatha asked. Her voice was soft, yet authoritative.

"Yes. Over there." Souvern pointed out again.

"It’s probably just a discarded weapon of some sort, from a battle that happened long ago." Zordo concluded.

"You’re most likely right." Magatha agreed. "But, we should check it out anyway. You can never be too careful."

"You took the words right out of my mouth." Zordo said nodding affirmatively.

"Well I disagree wholeheartedly because you two are always too careful." The two turned to see Dolg who had walked over there slowly. As soon as he heard the scream, he immediately recognized who it was. His smile was no longer present. In fact, he looked rather annoyed.
"Souvern are you wasting our time again? We’ve got to get to the central river as soon as possible."

The young man put his head down in shame.

"Just like I thought." Dolg turned to go back to leading the group. "Everyone keep moving."

"But Dolg," Zordo spoke "Just because he was wrong before, that by no means makes it so that he could be wrong this time."
"Zordo is right." Magatha said, "We should still search the area."

Dolg kept walking. "Like I said, you two worry too much. Look around, do you see anything?"

"Dolg in this tall grass, anyone could easily hide by..." Zordo started.

"Look," Dolg interrupted. He stopped walking and turned around. "Searching the area takes time. Stopping to do it once is fine, but when you keep doing it, it makes our jobs a lot harder. We’ve got a job to do and searching around for people who aren’t there isn’t it."

Zordo and Magatha looked at each other. They were not convinced.

Dolg let out a sigh. "Fine, think of it this way. We tried this three times before and had the same results every time. Chances are, this isn’t going to be different. It makes sense."
The Leader smiled at his friends hoping for some understanding.

Magatha and Zordo continued to stare at Dolg. Their expressions did not change. Dolg began to get irritated.

"You know what? It doesn’t matter what you two think anyway. The Commander put me in charge of this mission, so I say we keep moving without a search. Time is wasting and that’s not what time was made for."

And with that, Dolg made his way back to the front of the group. Slowly, the rest of the group of Golds settled down. They too began traveling in the direction Dolg was going. Magatha and Zordo began to walk too in the midst of a conversation.

"Is it just me, or has he gotten a little cocky since the old days?" Zordo said.

Magatha smiled. "Oh you know him Zordo, he’s just trying to take precedence."

"Yes, I do know him. Better than anyone. And I happen to know that he has a record for trying to get attention at being the best. It’s as if he were an Orange or something."

"If you feel so strongly about it, why do you always let him lead?" Magatha was only teasing. She knew full well why, but Zordo still answered the question.

"While it’s debatable which one of us is a better Leader, he clearly likes the job better. I could care less for the attention."

"So in other words, you like seeing him happy."

Zordo glared at Magatha "Don’t make me sound like a Blue. That’s just insulting."

"Whatever." Magatha said with a simple smile. "Though I do think you may be right about his emotions this time. I think he honestly believes there may be a chance to fight Atsuma at this place."

"Atsuma?" said a man holding an ax standing nearby. "He’s going to be at this place?"

"Nobody told me that." Said a women holding a bow who was next to the man.

"Don’t start spreading rumors." Zordo said with a serious face. "There is no reason to assume Atsuma will be there, or even if he’s still alive somewhere in Wig. The last thing we need is for there to be a big commotion over the expectancy of a Great One."

"Um..." Souvern spoke up from behind. He was trying to keep quiet because he was embarrassed, but his curiosity got the better of him. "Who is Atsuma?"

"Who is Atsuma!?" the man with the ax repeated. "How can you not know who he is?"

"Relax,” the woman said, “he just turned 26. It makes sense that he doesn’t know the famous fighters of Wig."

"Just because this is his first mission, that doesn’t mean anything." The man snuffed. "I knew about the Great Ones when I was still training in the base by listening to the other fighters."

The man then got close to Souvern. "I guess you don’t know about the Orange man who fights while riding a horse in Orange either. Or the Blue captain that’s been giving all our sailors trouble. You’d probably even make friends with a black band."

Souvern shrugged embarrassed. "I'd like to hear about all of those too. But right now, I’d just like to know who Atsuma is."

"Atsuma," Zordo spoke up annoyed by the conversation, "is one of the most known fighters in Wig-Or-Log. He has killed many a people in the years he's been involved in the war. He holds the unofficial title ‘Great One.’ Only when you get a reputation as high as his can you be called that. Among us, Dolg is the only Great One here."

"Which just tears you up inside, doesn’t it?" Magatha teased.

"I told you, I don’t care for the attention."
After that, both Zordo and Magatha moved up to rejoin their place behind Dolg.

"The reports go," the woman with the bow continued, "that Atsuma is a tan skinned man who looks to be in his twenties even though he’s older. He’s a Leader who can fight with any weapon fantastically, but his specialty is the curved sword."

Souvern was confused. "He sounds like just another Leader to me."

"Well he isn’t." the man with ax snapped. "Not only can he not be killed in a one on one fight, but his teammates are also spectacular. His tag team fighting with a Near named Koroko is said to be legendary. And as if that weren’t bad enough, he always, ALWAYS has atleast one Far lurking in the background. He makes them strike when you least expect so you don’t even know what killed you."

Souvern gulped at that thought.

"I guess that’s why Dolg wants to go to this place so badly." The woman went on. "He thinks Atsuma of Orange will be there and he wants to fight him."

"He’s crazy if you ask me. I would never fight Atsuma. He kills everyone who tries. Him or one of his teammates. He’s just as bad as the Greens."

"Now that’s an exaggeration." The woman glared at the man. "Atsuma kills everyone he fights. The Greens make it so that whoever fights them is never seen again."

"Well I don’t want to fight either of them."

"And that’s why you’re not one of the Great Ones."

The group of Golds continued to walk farther and farther. Soon they were all out of sight from the place that Souvern had stopped the group at. When that happened, the blades of grass began rustling. A figured rose from the tall grass. He could not be seen lying down like he was, but he had been there the whole time the Gold’s past by.

"Well that’s was a little too close for comfort," he said brushing himself off, "but I, Atsuma the Great One saved us with my quick thinking."

Pandora and Koroko immediately rose from the tall grass after hearing that.
"You just love having that title don’t you?" Pandora said.

"Of course. And I love it even more when people from other countries call me by that title."
Pandora rolled her eyes.

Atsuma let out a huge smile. "Hey, come on, don’t be that way. We’re all Great Ones."

"Maybe," Koroko said brushing himself off, "but whenever people talk about the Great Ones of Orange, they always talk about you, or Eltin. They even mention Altea being one sometimes. Yet you hardly ever see them talking about Pandora and Koroko the Great Ones."

Atsuma saw Koroko’s point and quickly tried to change the subject.

"Aw what do you care? It’s not like we like the Gold’s anyway."

"That’s true." Pandora agreed. "I don’t know why, but I just can’t stand them. Even Blue people, whom I’ve killed, I just see as people not on the same team as me. But Gold’s really get on my nerves."

"It’s because they always hold their heads up so high like they own everything. ‘Oh, look at me. I’m a Goldy. My country is winning the war. I’m so perfect and you aren’t.’ I honestly think Cham was suppose to be a Gold and got sent to the wrong country. He’d fit perfectly among those stuck up creeps."

Atsuma and Pandora chuckled at the act Koroko put on.

"By the way Ats,” Koroko began talking seriously, “do we have to keep hiding every time we see a group? This is like the fourth time we’ve done this. I’m getting shaky here man." Koroko then grabbed Atsuma by the shoulders and began playfully shaking him. "I GOTTA FIGHT SOMETHING, MAN."

Atsuma slowly took Koroko’s hands off his shoulders and began explaining.

"Well first of all, we couldn’t fight these guys specifically because they clearly outnumbered us AND they had a Great One in their group. Secondly, we’re not out here to start trouble, we’re looking for Vee. If we go causing fights, countries are going to be on the lookout for us and we can’t get our job done as easily. And last, even though I really really REALLY want to fight just like you do, in a fight like that I won’t be able to monitor everybody. And there are a couple of people on our team who need monitoring."

"I heard that." came a familiar voice. The three turned to see Baas and Sheina walking toward them. They had been lying in another part of the grass and had just made their way over to the rest of the group.

"I already told you," Baas continued, "I don’t need a babysitter. Don’t let me stop you from fighting. Now Sheina on the other hand..."

"Hey," Sheina asked accusingly, "who’s shiny shoes was it that almost got us caught?"

" The bottom of my feet were up because I had to fall on my back. Fastest way to get down with this heavy thing on." Baas pointed to the backpack he was carrying.

"And in doing so," Sheina said putting her hands on her hips, "you’ve probably just ruined tonight’s dinner."

"Alright you two, if you’re going to argue again, do it on the way. Just like them, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover. Still got a couple of days before we hit the nearest Grey territory."

"I’ll take lead." Baas announced going ahead.

"And exactly why is that a good idea?" Sheina asked.

"Because someday, I’ll be a Great One and I need to practice my Gold walk."

Baas put his hands on his hips and began mock walking to act fancy.
"‘Why hello, I’m Baas the Great One. Pardon me, but do you happen to have any fancy I may borrow? I seem to be running low. Yes? No? Maybe? Well then, you’re nothing but a Orange. Good day to you sir."

Baas was hoping for a laugh from Sheina but she just shook her head. That made Baas make a pout face.

"You just watch, I’ll be a Great One some day. And then, maybe I’ll let you fancy walk with me."

"Hey Great One!" Atsuma called sarcastically from some distance. Sheina and Baas turned to go to look at him. "I hope you know that you’re going the wrong way."

Not really much to say since there wasn't any real plot progress. Probably one of the weaker chapters so far in my opinion, but it's alright, with so many great chapters there are bound to be a few clunkers. And it was entertaining anyways. My lol moment of the chapter:

"I GOTTA FIGHT SOMETHING, MAN."

I swear, Koroko is just plain awesome. XD

I agree wholeheartidly. The reason this chapter took so long for me to get out was because I just didn't want to write it.(And because I was hoping for someone to sign up for the part of Dolg.) No matter how I looked at it, it just seemed uninteresting to me. It almost felt like seriously unneeded filler. And about half the stuff I wanted to put in it didn't even get in there. But, hey, you win some you lose some.
