what really annoys me about it is how far a few of those ________ will go to to show their devotion to the show, and what i mean by that is a few tend to draw......inappropriate fan art to say the....most

Rule 34 exists everywhere, not just among the Brony fanbase. As Brony I can tell you that it also disturbs me that people make that kind of thing. But again, this is the internet and people like that exist. You just have to stay away from it. That's what I do.

I love the show. I don't talk about it all the time or base profile themes around it or anything, but it's a nice, wholesome escape from the rigors of everyday life. It's also extremely well-written, with a likable cast of characters. Hachi tells me I'm a brony for liking the show, so I guess I am, even though I'm not fanatical about it.

I don't know how anyone could have anything against the show or its fans.

I hate the effect this show has had on many. It's okay if you enjoy a little girl's cartoon, but stop shoving it down our throats! It's like people are seeking attention by being fans of the show. The minute something negative is said, people start crying and try to validate their love for it, like if they're being hunted, by saying it's an "intelligent show with lots of development" etc. etc. It's a child's show, end of story. Many people enjoy shows made for children, it's nothing new. Get over yourselves people. It's like people aren't really into the show, but more into the fact that they're a fan of it. All this pushing MLP onto people's faces just makes the entire community look pathetic and desperate.

Huh? I've never seen fans do that. We must hang out in different circles.

I certainly don't know any MLP fans who cry over things as trivial as other people insulting their preferred entertainment. That's just silly.

I've watched a couple of episodes of the show, and I instantly disliked it. It features far too many colors for my taste and I find its ensemble cast to be awfully annoying both in appearance and personality. I've pondered for days on end the reason as to why people like it so much. I've even been told that the show features an assortment of pop culture references that might appeal to adults, albeit in small dosages, but that alone still isn't enough to convince me.

Although, despite my disliking the show, I must say that colorful horses and friendship must be doing something right, seeing as it spawned an entire subculture. Heck, grown men are enjoying it; this was unheard of a little over a decade ago. Unfortunately, however, I am not one of them...

I think this shows that it's entirely possible to dislike a show, and even not understand why anyone would like it, but still keep from bashing the fanbase. I applaud that.

The other day, my local newspaper ran an article about Bronyism (the growing young adult [mostly male] fanbase of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"). Basically, the article discussed the phenomena, and how it is defying gender stereotypes. However, the article offered little insight from the Bronies themselves. Since I know there's plenty of people on this site who are Bronies, I would like to know why you're a Brony. I don't object the phenomena, I'm just curious as to what makes a person a diehard "My Little Pony" fan. If you're not a Brony, what are your thoughts on the mattter?

Any thoughts and/or opinions on the matter are welcome... just curious to hear what others think! Its an interesting topic.

There are a lot of different kinds of fans of the show, some of which are perfectly OK and some of which who really give the fandom a bad name. I identify as more of a casual who just watches the show and likes some of the original content and this group probably makes up most of the fanbase. Then there's the harcore bronies, the ones that constantly shove MLP down your throat and have tons of merch; these are the worst kinds of people. Then there's the cloppers......

I got into the show and its fandom because I find the show enjoyable and I like the cast of characters; and I like some of the fanworks a lot too; there are some extremely talented fans out there who have made some really great stuff. Being part of the fanbase is a great feeling; you really feel like you're a part of something when you're in this fanbase and it manages to interconnect all sorts of different people and bring us together.

I realize now that I've posted a couple of times, but haven't given my own story.

My girlfriend, Hachi, introduced me to the show. She enjoyed it quite a bit, and I generally try to at least take a look at the shows she watches to see if I can join her in watching them. I didn't get it at first. There was nothing bad about it, but I couldn't tell the characters apart and I thought the plotlines were kind of boring. After a couple more episodes, I started to find it an enjoyable break from all my other entertainment.

Here was the turning point:

I loved the episode. It was charming, and by the end, I was nearly on the floor laughing. This song, particularly, is infectious. It's also probably one of the most nuanced looks at economics I've ever seen from a children's show, even though the characters make incompetent business decisions. It also gave the major characters a chance to shine.

On the whole, it was simplistic but very well-written. I had genuine respect for the show after that. I had watched many of the previous episodes, but I hadn't really paid attention to them; I finally did, and while there were still some I didn't enjoy much (mostly the Cutie Mark Crusaders eps), on the whole the quality is very high. And why shouldn't it be? Creative Director and Executive Producer Lauren Faust is a seasoned veteran, with the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, other shows that succeeded beyond their demographics, on her resume.

The show is intelligently-constructed, but I don't operate with the pretense that it's unusually intelligent in themes. Character development is, for the most part, restricted to individual episodes. Its moral lessons are a cut above the standard aesops from most children's shows, but don't serve to enlighten me in any way. But here's the thing: it really does have a high standard of quality, and I think most people who give it a chance see that and at least respect it. I certainly do. And if that makes me a brony, fine.

The My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show has swept the world in the last few months and with an large group of proponents, there is an equally populous opposing faction. Many are quick to claim that males who view the show are "gay". This cannot be farther from the truth. MLP is a program for all ages with lifetime themes that serve to enlighten people from every walk of life. Does watching The Legend of Korra make you "kiddy"? Certainly not. Some programming is suitable for all ages and audiences.

What characterizes a die hard Brony? Traditionally these people flaunt their dedication to the show by displaying program appropriate avatars and signatures based on it across Internet forums. Many also likely browse the web in search of more obscure information regarding the brand. There is nothing wrong with being a Brony and I highly encourage it as a virtual escape from the hardships of our daily lives.

Yeah I agree but it does have moments for kids that I just skip on youtube but that's expected on a kids show and watch mlp fim just cuz you can cuz its actually not that bad.

Quite honestly, I find it creepy. People can like what they want, but that doesn't change the fact that I find this whole obsession creepy.

Thanks for the heads up. It's certainly something I'll consider in the future. I've actually seen bits and pieces of the show and I must say it boasts strong moral maxims. Nothing along the lines of the Bible or another holy scripture but the namesake "Friendship is magic" was severely reinforced. The ponies also mirror a variety of human personalities and teach us to be more respecting towards each other. Rainbow Dash is adventurous and daring, Fluttershy is timid and polite, Pinkie Pie is exuberant and enthusiastic. They may seem like incompatible acquaintances on the surface but upon further inspection realize that they are all of the same stock and should stick together.

What do you find creepy about it? I don't see how it's any creepier than liking Disney movies, the Avatar series, or anything else targeted towards children.

Seeing as how I was initially skeptical of the Brony subculture, I wouldn't mind answering this question. From an outsider's perspective My Little Pony appears to be nothing more than a glorified reboot, comparable to something like the Amazing Spider-Man for older audiences. There are legions of devoted forum loyalists across the Internet and they seek to make the program the next big meme fad. That said, if we treat the show within the realms of reality as entertainment with a virtuous lesson from time to time no harm is done. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is harmless fun for all ages.

You and me both Wolf Sage. For me, I couldn't stop thinking of my childhood. Heck, if I didn't like them then, I still can't get into them now. Sure, its cute, and if people like it, I have no problem with that. Its just not my style, maybe its because the voices slightly annoyed me and... talking ponies... and sometimes when they made a joke, it wasn't all that funny to me. But, as I have stated before there should be NOTHING wrong with watching something that makes people happy. Sometimes, watching shows intended for kids is much better than watching show intended for adults nowadays :/

So, keep on.... broning, bronies. Just... don't get too crazy alright?

Eh, I don't really have a problem with Bronies. I know one as a friend in real life.

It's only the ones who are more vocal with their tastes that bug me. For example, I don't like how some of the fandom dislikes any other show on the channel that competes with them for air time and awards.

I'm a Transformers and comic book fan, and while, that probably affects my judgement, I'm really annoyed about how some of them talk about other shows. I went on one of the major fan sites after finding out that The Joker (from a show that's off the air, no less) lost an award to the show's main villain, I read the posts of about 3 of them, and one of the posts I remember was, "Let's sit this one out next year, and give them a chance." It really bothered me, because they were basically celebrating for beating a bunch of eight-year-olds. Why don't you hold an IQ test while you're at it, and order a huge cake for the winner?

The ones who write torture porn like, "Cupcakes" are the only major problem I have with them. They and the people who draw those illustrations, and the three who celebrated their shiny virtual award disgust me.

But the majority of the fandom, I'm fine with. I actually don't know many bronies, but the ones I stay in touch with are amazing friends.

Although I have only seen the show a few times, just for curiosity, I can't really call myself a "Brony". It's ok, but that's probably because I don't focus too much on it. Despite what I said right now, it's still a show that gives a sense of hope and belief that nothing is possible. So in other words, the show gives good advice on life lessons. I'm still surprised that many guys watch this show and I totally respect their decision on television programs. I can't judge them, since I still watch Pokémon and Kirby: Right Back At Ya, and other shows that most people would consider "kiddy" even though the majority of them love to watch as well.

I'm absolutely in love with MLP:FiM. A few friends from school convinced me and my boyfriend to watch it, and we both liked it from the start. We had our doubts that it'd be anything we'd like, but we were wrong. There's just something about it that just gets our attention. Not only are the ponies adorable, they're funny and they all have different personalities.

Yes, I'm happy to say to my friends that I'm a brony, but I don't go around telling everyone and trying to get them to try to watch it. Though I do recommend it to people who haven't watched it yet, mostly the ones who likes those silly little bits from cartoons. :P
