Next to the shock crystal, on the part that rotates, is a little 'basket' type area that you can throw the orb into. After doing so, hit the shock crystal again and the orb will wind up in its slot.
Now use the key to open the doors that appear after shooting the shock crystal. Don't go through the open doors. Return to the orb and pick it up.
