The first time it can be heard is from Marin. She sings the song to [[Link (A Link to the Past)#Link's Awakening|Link]] in [[Mabe Village]] next to the weathercock on many occasions.{{Ref|LA|36|Marin}}{{Ref|LA|39|Marin}} After Link finds the [[Ocarina]] in the [[Dream Shrine]], Marin asks Link to accompany her while she sings the song.{{Ref|LA|37|Marin}} This allows Link to then play the Ballad of the Wind Fish anywhere on his ocarina.{{Ref|LA|52|In-Game Description}} Later, Link and Marin both go to [[Animal Village]] to awaken the [[Walrus]] blocking the path to [[Yarna Desert]] with this song. Marin then stays in the village to sing the Ballad of the Wind Fish to all of the animals there.
