Two years after the release of Phantom Hourglass, Sataru Iwata announced at the
Game Developers Conference the production of the next Zelda Game. Spirit Tracks
uses the same engine as the previous title, meaning it's also for the Nintendo
DS, using the stylus pretty much exclusively throughout the game for movement,
the use of items, as well as everything else. The story takes place one hundred
years after it's predecessor, so there's some descendants and even some older,
remaining characters from the previous title. Some items return in this
installment as well, having had some improvements and being used for revamped
and even more clever puzzles.
This time around, Link rides around in a steam powered train rather than the
steamboat from Phantom Hourglass. Another mechanic returning to this game is the
use of iron-clad warriors known as Phantom, which, this time around can be
controlled by his companion, none other than Zelda herself! This new twist of
gameplay allows you to control two characters at once to solve puzzles and fight
enemies.
