It is a highly-active volcano, where the Divine Beast Vah Rudania sits, and is surrounded by the Death Caldera lava lake. The only ways to reach the mountain are either through the air, or over the Bridge of Eldin. Death Mountain (Tears of the Kingdom)
The eruptions have stopped and Death Mountain has cooled. However, the Death Mountain Chasm has formed through the centre of Death Mountain, and spews gloom until Moragia emerges and is defeated by Link and Yunobo. After this, while gloom is still present, it merely clings to the interior walls as with most other chasms.
