I have more bad to say than good about this movie. There are just so many problems I have with this movie. The plot was very poor in my opinion. I feel like nothing really happened. The main crew was just escaping from The First Order and Rey was with Luke learning more about Kylo's past and being trained, I guess? Other than that nothing happened. This entire movie was pretty pointless and just seems like it was a 2 and a half hour intro for the next movie. Honestly this entire movie would be 30 minuets long if people just weren't so stupid. If the leadership of the Resistance new what their plan was all along, why didn't they just tell everyone and abandon ship as soon as possible. Especially knowing that Poe would try something. Waiting for the last second was a waste of time and a waste of the life of the Resistance members. They also knew one person had to stay and run the cruiser, so they could have easily all escaped with everyone jumping ship while one person turned around and blasted into hyper speed destroying all the First Order's ships. I don't understand why they decided to drag this section on and make it all ambiguous and just make this the main section of the movie when it was probably the least important part, the most annoying part, and the most boring part.
The parts with Rey and Luke just felt glossed over. It did go over Kylo's past but barely. They were just like, "Oh Luke tried to kill Ben and he became Kylo. Cool". I find villains more intriguing if you know their history and I wish they focused more on this. The Jedi training was underwhelming and just dumb I guess. Nothing much really happened with Luke training Rey. This section also lead to the most underwhelming part of the film when Rey keeps focusing on who her parents were. They built up all this suspense with them making us feel like the reveal of who her parents will shock us. It was all pointless though because it turns out her parents where no one and she's just a nobody. Cool, nice letdown. There's not much to say about this section as again, not much happened.
The side plot where Finn and Poe needed to find that code breaker dude was one of the dumbest most mind numbing things I ever had to sit through. The romance between Finn and that other character was just cheesy and dumb. They kept failing on every task they had to do which was annoying and made the section feel more pointless. During this entire 30 minuet section of the film nothing happened at all. I feel like there was no character building. They added a bunch of new characters that no one cares about because they are just here for this section for the film and they will probably never return (And I hope that one girl, I forget her name, doesn't comeback because I feel like they will just turn it into a love battle for Finn between her and Rey). I wish I could elaborate more on why this section of the movie was so bad, but there's not much to talk about it. Nothing happened during this part, it was all pointless because it was a failure, and it would have never even happened if the incompetent Resistance leaders just told everyone what their plan was. It just felt like padding to make the movie longer, but they could have just made the movie longer by focusing more on stuff that actually mattered.
Speaking of stuff that actually mattered, Snoke's role in this film was abysmal. No backstory was given and he was killed in the most pathetic way possible. He was cut in half while his back was turned. Great villain. Why is this movie focusing on a weak sub plot and a boring space chase and not giving us any insight on who the villains are. They could have built up the lore for this sequel trilogy but no, let's just have a movie where nothing happens.
Luke's role in the film really pissed me off too. Especially towards the end. He didn't seem like a jedi master, he seemed like a coward. He sent a hologram or something to fight Kylo Ren, and he died by just disappearing into nothing. Wouldn't have it been cooler just to see him get blown apart or even cut in half and make Luke seem more human, but nope it had to be as disappointing as the rest of this movie. They just confuse us and make his seem like some sort of god when in reality he doesn't have the decency to actually show up and not die like a coward. It was also infuriating that they kind of glossed over his death like it didn't matter at all. The talk about i briefly and then go like "How are we going to build the resistance now". Like, cool, Luke wasn't an important character at all let's just act like this doesn't effect anything.
The only good I can say about the film is that the visuals where amazing and the score was also outstanding. I feel like they built Kylo and Rey's character more, even though I wish more characters where developed in some way. Other than that I feel like this movie was just overall abysmal and disappointing.
