On the Topic of What's Popular in Japan.......

After reading a topic on here talking about LOZ not being all that popular in Japan, I've had this question. Which games are popular over in that country anyway? I know Pokemon is (obviously since every other country likes it as well) along with some JRPG's (excluding Kingdom Hearts surprisingly) and mobile games, but what other games do people actually like over there?

Visual novels are popular in Japan, I heard that around 70% of PC games in Japan in the year 2006 sold are visual novels. I'm not sure what the breakdown of percents now is, but that goes to show you how popular they are.

Loathe as most people (but not me) are to say it, it's true that the Japanese just love games involving...freakish things, like Tentacles and all that shizzle. I mean, why is Monster Hunter 4 so freaking popular? Exactly.
