This will probably a stupid question but not sure where else to ask this. In the Oracle series guides on ZD, when you read the dungeon guides, they list directions in terms such as "Swim across the water and head up one screen to 2F-B5, then continue left one screen to 2F-B4. Dive into the area of deep water down to the first floor, room A3.", but given no corresponding map is provided, and the game doesn't give such identifiers, I'm confused. How do I make sense of it?

If it gives you hints in where to go, follow them. Up, left, right correspond to the direction you're meant to go. If you're still confused, split the map into coordinates like they had.
